Game Thread Ohio State @ Indiana, 08/31/17 @ 8:00 ET (ESPN)

43-7 since I left the bar. Lesson learned. Sorry about the undue stress, folks.
That's 43-7 against a pretty decent team that's going to pull off an upset or two in conference play and should make a bowl game. This was Indiana's biggest home opener ever, honoring Lee Corso between the 1st and nd quarters. It had all the markings of an epic upset, until 43-7 happened. I think it's good that IU came out and punched us in the mouth early (only to get a white-hot poker shoved up their ass repeatedly). Me thinks we won't start as slow at home against the Sooners...

Don't really get the bashing on the offensive game plan myself... first game, against a team with a mass of people back that always give us trouble. Yet we go for 600 yards offense with 300 of each pass throw and we are complaining? I'll admit JT in my opinion doesn't have the arm to truly go vertical but he laid it in perfect for Campbell which he dropped.

I think the tempo was good but got overshadowed by how fast IU was going because 86 plays is a ton. That said I think we can go faster but not many times were we standing there waiting for the calls. The game plan I feel was to go deep but they were dropping so there was nothing there. That's exactly why we ran for 300 and found so much success in crossing routes and in the flats.

This had nothing to do with us just being superior i personally feel. We took what they gave us and unlike the past 2 seasons we gave our play makers the opportunity to get the ball in space and make a play. I'm 100% on this offense as I see it.

Could have been 56-21 without the drop and without the multiple drops in the first half we probably get another TD in the first half as well. Bottom line is we got better each quarter until IU just had no answer.

Not sure what else the offense needs to do against what was a very experienced defense that in years past never even allowed us to sniff this kind of production. That includes the teams lead by Mr Mensa.

good breakdown. thanks.

in regards to point #9, 3 of the hoosiers' 4 leading receivers this game: 6'4", 6'4", and 6'5". i doubt we're going to face a corps quite like that again this season.

That is what I was thinking. Ball placement was perfect and they caught contested balls. As a whole, our coverage was superb in my eyes, they just made plays on well thrown passes. There are a few exceptions but overall, I don't have many worries here. The IU game plan was to throw up a ton of contested passes and hope they come down with them. That worked for the first half, not so much after we adjusted.

After surfing thru 100+ pages and seeing the anxiety and frustration of bp posters re: the Buckeyes 1st half ineptitude , please I beseech you ~ pace yourselves for the long haul! :urban2:

Having mentioned at the beginning of this thread several mos. ago, good things happen after Urban loses to Clemson in a bowl game.

btw, 2014 Indiana game Ohio State was losing at home !!! 20 to 14 with 2:30 left in the 3rd quarter and then a freshman named Jalin Marshall showed up. Did I mention it's a longgg season.

Perspective people! And remember not too long ago Cooper was the head coach :panic: ok don't remember.

:oh: *** :io:

I was worried, until I remember almost every first game of the season. How many opening season games do we look terrible (against an overmatched opponent) in the first half and then end up crushing them in the second half? This one looked worse because of the high expectations we have for this team with the new offensive coordinator, stacked defensive front and everything.

I have to admit that I am ashamed of myself for bashing an offense that rolled up almost 600 yards last night and a defense that forced 3 turnovers and held a better than average offense to 7 points in the 2nd half...

...and a football team makes its biggest improvement between weeks 1 and 2.

Go Bucks. Beat Oklahoma.

I don't think you have anything to be ashamed about. We've seen this movie before against inferior opponents. I'm still not sure this offense can hang with the big boys of CFB. Still don't trust the passing. game. This defense could be special once the secondary settles in. I haven't seen OSU's d-line dominate like that in a LONG time.
