Game Thread Ohio State at Oklahoma, 09/17/16 @ 9:00pm ET, FOX

The ONLY thing I don't like about how this game sets up is that, in relation to the CFBP, it is do or die for the Sooners. Ohio State is going to get their best shot. But offensively, Ohio State is going to find ways to move the ball and score points, and defensively, Ohio State is going to make plays and limit points. How much success those units have in doing that is the unknown. But I like where the Buckeyes are coming in. The best thing would be for that Sooner motivation advantage turn to some panic if Ohio State starts hot.

I'm expecting a close, exciting game with the outcome not determined til late - but I will take an Ohio State romp.

Because Ohio State's quarterback isn't as strong of a passer as Greg Ward is. No disrespect intended.

Mike Stoops was able to contain Greg Ward from scrambling around. I would bet he'll do the same with Barrett, but we'll see if the latter can pick apart the OU defense with a bunch of new wide receivers.

Not sure even you believe that concerning the passing. And Ward is obviously the more dangerous runner, but don't discount Barrett's ability to burn you on zone reads.

I don't think it's going to be easy to put up points, but two of those receivers are Samuel and Wilson, and they've already shown they can do a lot of damage.

Because defense is optional and not a driving force behind success in the B12. Even TCU lost their defensive mojo as they rose to power.

Because it is an easier coping mechanism than recognizing before the season (and now) that both games don't look good for Oklahoma on paper.

Because Houston has a more proven offense while OSU can be downgraded as potentially great but young.

Exactly. There's no doubt that Ohio State's recent recruiting classes have contributed to the expectional talent they've displayed on the field. But talent doesn't always translate into guaranteed wins.

Going back to our 2014 Sugar Bowl win over Alabama, we had lesser talent on the field than they had. Yet somehow, Bob Stoops was able to outcoach Nick Saban to a surprising 14-point asskicking. You never know how end results come out, especially in these big-time college football games.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Alabama didn't give a shit about being in a Sugar Bowl when they've played for a national championship 4 or 5 times in the last 7-8 years.

That's probably the lone win over a more talented opponent you can point to over the last five years or so. Like I said earlier in the thread, more often than not Stoops gets his teeth kicked in when he goes up against comparable or superior talent.

So, just to show how the internet goes, I followed up a bit by reading an article about the kid and his family's Ohio ties and realized that I knew his Dad, Brian Kendall, (not well) from our high school days. Since he apparently met his wife back then I figured that I likely knew her by her maiden name too and googled to see if that would pop up somewhere. Well, what I learned is that:

1. There's a porn star named Kimberly Kendall (not Austin's mom); and

2. There's something called "Boobpedia" that apparently provides the 411 (I wasn't going to click on it from the office) on the boobs of people like Kimberly (not Austin's Mom) Kendall.

You're welcome.

I know it's your opinion Sooner but I'd disagree. I feel Ward is thought as the better runner but JT will make you pay with how well he runs the zone read. Also throw wise it's very much identical.

Here's the stats

Ward- 677 attempts completing 66.5 for 5468 yards with 32 Touchdowns and 13 INT.

JT-514 attempts with a 64% completions. 4324 yards passing 51 TD 15 INT.

They actually are close to the same. Roughly the same percent completed and yards per attempt (JT actually per pass is better 8.4 to 8.01). Biggest difference is Ward throws a ton more then JT and falls 19 TD passes behind JT. To Oklahoma's chagrin JT is not as good taking care of the ball despite throwing 170 less passes.

To me it shows that the people JT is throwing to are better threats particularly in the red zone.

Rushing stats are similar surprisingly as well. JT has less yards (1700 to Wards 1850) but JT has a better average (5.5 to 4.8). Ward Also edges JT 29 TD to 25 but again has more attempts.

Bottom line you're basically dealing with Greg Ward again with better playmakers out wide and most especially at the running back position which is where JT loses his production to.

I'd actually really like Oklahoma to stink it up in non-conference and then win the big 12 just to see how the committee reacts.
