Ohio State 80 Purdue 77 (Final--OT)

Sorry, that's it. There is no way this team can win another game. Ever. And now I will tell you why. They do not have matching socks. That's clear proof that the team is not playing together as a team.

Wait, that's from last night? Oh, so what superstition are we supposed to hang onto?

Nevermind. Grad21, lock the MSU game thread right now. That must be it. The game thread. If you're on the team and you're reading this, wear the same bloody socks and realize that not a one of us believe you can win. So, go prove us wrong, see if we care.

I'm on my way to Cooperstown to get these for the team.

Koufos sits, Ohio State wins

We?re not saying one led to the other. We?re just saying they both happened last night, one after the other. You can draw your own conclusions _ or conspiracies, if you?re so inclined.
With 6:25 left in regulation against Purdue, 7-foot freshman Kosta Koufos went to the bench after playing a five-minute shift. In came senior Matt Terwilliger, who had four fouls, the same number as Koufos. With Ohio State trailing by three points and needing scoring, the team?s No.2 points producer might have expected to be back in in a minute or so.
Instead, Koufos never got back in. In fact, coach Thad Matta played the same five players the last 11 minutes, 10 seconds of the overtime victory over the Boilermakers. Matta subbed Evan Turner for Jon Diebler 15 seconds after replacing Koufos and rode Turner, Terwilliger, Jamar Butler, David Lighty and Othello Hunter to the finish line of the Buckeyes? first win in five games.

Twigs played well last night and was more effective than KK in my opinion......
I think Twig and Jamar know each other a lot better and played together much better than when KK is in there with Butler especially last night when Butler was really going off. I think Thad might have also gotten a little upset with Kosta when he gets stripped of a rebound and Purdue took it the other way for an easy layup.

I just want to say how happy:) I am for Butler to play that well last night. Granted he was not perfect but I will take that "not perfect" for a few more games.

I also want to say that before this thread was closed that I had said I felt very good about this game and thought that the Buckeyes had a very good chance.

Purdue is going to have trouble when they get to the NCAA tournament because of their "aggressive" man-to-man defense. I cannot believe all the bumping that went on that was not called.

Also props to Matta...Don't know if it was something he changed or what...But there was better rotation on defense tonight and more movement on offense, screens off the ball for i think the first time I have seen all year...
I noticed that also that we made more off the ball screens last night then we have all season. Not only was this an excellent move because we have not done it much during the season but it works very well against a team who plays such an aggressive man-to-man defense like Purdue.

Yeah I noticed this too. It was nice to see the adjustments we made, especially at halftime. Great job by Thad.

I was very happy to see the seniors really step up last night. Twigs was a great spark...loved his hustle and toughness. Hunter...that's the most complete game I've seen out of him in a long time. And Butler...can't say enough. He was lights out in the second half...and money from the FT line.

I also thought Lighty was a solid role player last night. His line was:
4-9 FGs for 9 pts, 4 RBs, 4 assts, 0 TOs, and 1 steal. Nothing wrong with that!

Turner starting to really come into his own. HUGE clutch shot there at the end...nice to see that confidence to step up!

Not sure what happened with KK. Twigs was just playing well and once the guys started playing well together, Matta just stuck with that rotation. I think alot of us have said all season that the guys just don't seem to "click" or "gel." But last night that final rotation in there with Twigs was really clicking.

Hats off to Purdue by the way. This is going to be a great team for a few years. If they had a dominant big man they'd be SCARY good.

the team has been setting them all year. the execution has been pathetic most of the year.

what about twigs, he laid more moving screens that ive seen in a long time. he had a nice on the ball screen and roll which would have made nicky sualua proud as he escorted/threw the lead blocks on as butler drove to the basket.

its basektball its a game of runs and matchups. i dont think you can point to one game, or one run and jump to a conclusions. kof has averaged 14 and 7 for the year and it was the first time he was held to single digits points since 1/15

the team won, thats the most important thing.

I based my comment off watching him the whole season. And it's the truth, It's a shame people have to get all upset about one little comment. Oh well

Hopefully he's not the second coming of Drew Gooden:tongue2:

A great win last night by this young group.....

We finally had some offensive balance with three players in double figures and a fourth with 9 points. Great effort by the ENTIRE team, which is what they need to win. Jamar played like a senior with possibly just three games left in his career. We were still beat on the boards 37-31 but we seemed to control the glass for long stretches in the game. We held them to 40% from the field and did a good job of closing out on shooters and eliminating open looks. We played aggressive and got some shots to fall......this could be a springboard to bigger things......I like the fact we have all week to prepare for MSU while they have a late game on Thursday......
