OHIO STATE 49, WISCONSIN 48 (Final)

I would like to say a couple more things about the noise factor at the Schott and then I will let it rest.

I love Andy Geiger and off he did for the Athletic department but the one thing that I think he did wrong was construct the Schott in the manner that he chose. It reminds me of the old Cleveland Coliseum which was built as a multi-activity venue. When you construct a building for both hockey and basketball, it is almost impossible to obtain the same noise level if you were in an arena which was built almost solely for basketball. I do not know the finances of it but I think it would have been a lot better if the University would have built a smaller building for basketball and entertainment and maybe a 10,000 seat arena for hockey. I know that it would probably have been more costly but I do not think we would be having the same problems as we're having now. In addition, the hockey team would not be thrown out of their arena for the State wrestling tournament.

As I mentioned in my earlier post the basketball team needs to get a pep band rather than a marching band for the games. You don't see a marching band at ACC or SEC games. The cheerleading is another issue. They have no idea what is going on at basketball games and, for that matter, football games. It seems like they go to sporting events and thinks that a gymnastic meet is taking place. If I want to see gymnastics, I will go to a gymnastic meet.

One more thing, I am tired of white outs or gray outs. Most of the people that I know have red sweatshirts or sweaters that they wear to most Ohio State sporting events so why can't the University understand that the majority of people will be wearing some shade of red (scarlet) and knock off this stuff about different color outs.

I just had to say this and now I will let it rest. Now back to Wisconsin.

The Game

Back to the Wisconsin game. I am having a hard time remembering who guarded Tucker when we first played them. The guy that bothers me the most is Taylor. He always seems to be able to hit his outside shots when they play us. Not only this year but also last year.

I am also wondering how much time Hunter will get with Oden and him both on the floor at the same time. I think one of the reasons MSU plays well against them is because they can match up better size wise with them. I don't want GO straying too far away from the basket but if he is assigned to Bush that worries me a little if Bush starts hitting his 3s like he also seems to do when he plays us.

At least we won't have to worry about them playing a zone against us unless Bo goes against everything he has done in his coaching career.

I agree with the article that says Oden needs to touch the ball often. But I think his touches need to come out of the penetration and ball movement game, not the half court set. These guys are at their best when Conley, Lewis and Cook are looking to drive. So many good things happen when they drive and the defense has to collapse and play help...mainly, that Oden and Hunter gets some easy shots inside.

Buckeyes shooting for repeat in Big Ten
Top-ranked Wisconsin stands in OSU?s way

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

When coach Thad Matta handed out Big Ten championship rings in October to four returning members of the Ohio State men?s basketball team, David Lighty was especially envious.
Lighty wasn?t on the team last season. Neither were fellow freshmen Greg Oden, Daequan Cook and Mike Conley Jr. But Lighty said the other three had rings from having won state championships as high school seniors.
"I lost in the state championship (game)," Lighty said, "so I didn?t get one. Hopefully, we can do that this year."

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Not since the Red Hot Chili Peppers visited Value City Arena in October has the belly of the Jerome Schottenstein Center burned with this much anxious energy.
When No. 1 Wisconsin plays No. 2 Ohio State today in a nationally televised men?s basketball game, the characteristically calm OSU crowd is expected to erupt in untethered enthusiasm rather than reach for the Tums to tone things down.
