OHIO STATE 49, WISCONSIN 48 (Final)

The game last night was quiet at a church on Sunday.

I'm sure it was.

As long as the goal of the university is to make as much money as possible out of Men's basketball games, you will never see a difference. Providing a service to the students and the community will always be a distant second.

Having been to several games (football and basketball) and afterwards reading people write about the crowd noise at the game, I'd like to say this: people who weren't at the game shouldn't comment on the crowd noise because television does not accurately represent how loud it is/was. While there is an obvious difference between when the Schott is rocking and a game like last night, I am sure that it was plenty loud at crucial moments in the game, and I am sure it will be plenty loud for the Wisconsin game, so lay off.

what is theosu record in the schott over the last 3 years??

I think we have only lost 3 games at home the past three years -MSU and Minnesota and Wisconsin

49-3 at Value City and St. John. We also won an additional And Nationwide which would give us 50 wins

Also, I'm not saying that with a different seating arrangement, more students ect. that the Schott wouldn't be significantly louder, but you do the best you can with what you've got, and the fans at every game do their best to support the team and it irks me slightly to read people complaining about it.

I've had seasons tickets to our basketball games for 17 straight seasons until now so it irks me slightly when people assume I make comments based upon watching games on the television.

IMO the crowd has been great ever since the student have been on both ends of the court.

I will say that at times in games like last nite that against teams that arent highly regarded that the PSL's sit on their hands, I even saw one guy that was standing up in that section trying to get people up and there was guy behind him that told him to sit down and the guy told him no, so he had to look around him...

Either way everyone of our fans realizes the magnitude of the game on Sunday, so trust me when I say that the crowd will be loud start to finish...

We shouldn't be comparing ourselves to Penn State. We should be comparing ourselves to the elite of the country. If someone did an average decibel reading of our fans in the schott, I bet we would be lucky to fall in the top 50 if the same was done at all D1 arenas.

Not comparing us to PSU..but I totally disagree, the crowd has been very loud at times this year, I just think the thing is when you have a big crowd of 19500, and the people in the front on the two sides arent your type of fans that stand for a whole game and get loud and crazy you are going to have times where the fans are not loud the whole time. The thing is we are filling the house this year and at times the whole place is on thier feet and getting loud. The thing is on Sunday the crowd will be jacked and up all game long...

Many of the elderly people who attend home games are not going to get up and yell like your regular fan. It is just not in them.

I do not think that the cheerleaders are very good for whatever that is worth. I also think that the band is not truly a basketball band. I know the guys in the band try like hell but the director keeps a hold on them. He does not want them to get too crazy. I can remember when Willie Sullivan was the head of the band at St. John and he let the band guys go crazy which was really neat. John Wolfe is a little more sterile.

Also, the noise heard in the arena and on TV you cannot really compare them because the sound gets muffled by the TV announcers mics. In football, it is even more difficult because of where the few mics are placed it at Ohio State and let's say some SEC school.

I couldnt agree more, at times it is like the cheerleaders kill the atmospher, instead of a lets go bucks cheer or someting like that all they do is hold each other up, and twirl around. Also during the game they don't cheer as they sit on their hands...

I agree about the band, as well.

The thing that I really like that they continue to do more of is the 3rd down bell that really gets the crowd going...It is like a cue to the crowd to get up...Much like on 3rd down in the shoe.

FWIW I wasn't trying to take a jab at the students who actually do cheer but I have even had some of my OSU friends complain that they will try to cheer but everyone else around them just talks to each other about how drunk they were the night before...if i remember right i think we only did a de-fense chant maybe 5 or 6 times...which is not a hard chant for people to do...I also agree that our band is not a basketball band...even against michigan singing the we dont give a damn song was way too long...its like a joke with a minute long punch line...it just doesnt work...we need some better cheers which comes back to the cheerleaders
