OHIO STATE 49, WISCONSIN 48 (Final)

I agree that the officiating was poor on both sides. Oden was getting held and even the guys calling the game were making comments on how calls were being missed. What was it 4 traveling calls on Oden?? Seemed like on a couple of those he was getting pushed. Conley is so fast, I hope that Matta turns him loose at some point. If they put the ball in his hands more to penetrate the lane and then either put up the shot or dish to a big inside, that could be deadly. Now that the Big Ten Championship is in the bag, we can gear up for an ass spanking of the dribbling Weasels when we travel to scUMville on March 3rd.

:oh:

the game has two halves, which are divided into five 4 min segments (give or take a bit) so thats by my math 10 4 min games. 7 is the magic number...
"n-NO! not six. seven. you can't even get your heart rate up in 6 minutes, not even a mouse on a wheel, man. seven is the lucky number. you know, seven eleven, seven dwarves, seven chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. you know that old children's song from the sea man! you're dreaming of gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly brie time, baby. step into my office."

"why?"

"'cause you're fuckin' FIRED!"

 sorry, i couldn't help it.

I think as hot as Kansas is, they are a team I wouldn't mind matching up with in the middle rounds if it should happen. They are smokin hot right now, and this isn't the best time of the year to peak. As opposed to January, yes it is, but a cold streak right now will cost many great teams. They are also prone to either blowing teams out or else they are beatable. It just seems like if Kansas doesn't beat you by 25, they won't beat you.

Back to the game, I hope Butch is OK. My friend missed it, so we hit rewind and I didn't even watch the second time. I actually feel bad for the guy.

This might be a stretch and I dont know if its been mentioned before, but does anyone think Matta might play Cook based somewhat on Cook's plans for next year, even if it a subconcious thing.

I really didnt understand why he had Cook on the bench the last 10 minutes of the game, sure he missed some shots, but when you get only 5 and youre constantly looking to the sideline for when youre coming out its kind of a lot of pressure on each one of those shots.

I am just wondering because after the first Penn State game, Cook said he was definitely coming back. He then started at Minnesota and played 32 minutes against Penn State at home. This game he barely got to play at all even though I thought he was playing strong defense and playing smart, his shots just didnt fall and his great look to Terwilliger just missed. The only thing I could think of is that I bet Matta (and i know hed never say this) didnt like seeing in the dispatch that Cook was now going back to considering the NBA and his mom said that he feels like hes being punished by his limited minutes.

I know it was senior day and Cook's shots werent falling, but there didnt seem to be a reason to me why to sit him. Im sure people would say matchups, but it looked to me that Cook matched up better with Wisconsin than Lewis and should have at least gotten some minutes with the way he was playing defense and the way he rebounds. I dont think Matta was out to punish Cook, but possibly he just would rather play people who played or will play out their eligibility at OSU (with Oden he has no choice).

Edit: Also did anyone who was at the game notice that in the last minute when all bench players were standing Cook was still sitting on the bench, leaning forward to see down the floor?

What a great scene today...Anyone doubting if the crowd would be electric saw a great atmosphere...Crowd was electric...

Big ten champs back to back, how great is that...Who woudl of thought that would happen when Matta got hired...What a great coach he is. He deserves as much credit as anyone for getting this team to play together and put all the pieces together...

Lewis and Harris will be missed, they showed up today, but their career is not over just yet, and we will need them to continue to step up in the big ten and NCAA tourney...

I think Otis said it best when he said Butler is the glue. I couldn't agree more...

As for Conley and Oden they are just great players and very fun to watch, and just a word to wise enojoy them while they are here, b/c guys like this don't come around every other year...

As for the game today we showed up and while we still had some stretches with TO's getting beat up on the boards, and not knocking down our shots, we played great as a team and got a combination of great play from upperclassmen and frosh...

I'm in a great mood and don't want to bitch about CBS or the refs. I will question why the CBS channel in Chicago (home of the Big Ten) showed the end of the Duke-St John's blowout, rather than the opening 3 minutes of the first #1 vs #2 regular season matchup in the history of the Big Ten.

I will instead focus on the accomplishment of a fine group of basketball players. Congrats to all of these Buckeye teams:

2006 Football - OUTRIGHT BIG TEN CHAMPIONS !!

06-07 Men's Basketball - OUTRIGHT BIG TEN CHAMPIONS !!

06-07 Women's Basketball - OUTRIGHT BIG TEN CHAMPIONS !!

And all of these teams also won a conference championship last year. They have completed..

THE DOUBLE-TRIPLE

It's a great time to be a Buckeye!

I love Obie, as much or more as any other fan. I remember the horrific team he took over, his first year of 1-15, this haunts me almost as much as the 7 years previous to that, but i love Obie, he was able to take a group of thugs, run them out and turn his 1-15 big ten team into a final four team the very next year, but on thing needs to be stated. WE CANNOT RECRUIT.

For whatever the reason is we cannot get any quality players. I am not referring to the great out of state pheneoms, but here in ohio and even within the city limits. Sure we got Ivan this year. But, look at who we have lost out on guys like lavender, foust, kenny gregory, I cannot remember me the last time we got the best player in Franklin county, no don't give me the Mike Redd argument Kenny was a far superior prep star.

I dont know who the new coach will be but i hope he gives me great quality players (and doesnt have to pay for them for sure) I want guys like Jay Burson, Chris Jent, who willl bust their ass, but we are THE Ohio State University, and should every year be competing for big ten championships and national titles.

Give me a man Karl, Matta, Boyages, whoever it is, that will recruit.
