Game Thread Ohio State 33, Washington 14 (Final)

The big ten has been a huge disappointment so far I think... Here's why

OSU-we may be the best in the big ten, and we're a very very young team. We have made some of the scores closer than they had to be but we've been solid

PSU-Solid, but did look a bit off against ND, and gave up some points today to buffalo.

Wisconsin-Suppose to be top 10 team? Bull shit, they are giving up huge chunks of points. First to WSU, then to NMSU, and now today giving up 31 to the CITADEL!

Michinga- No need for explanations

Purdue- Giving up some points to inferior teams, and also putting up points on Inferior teams

MSU- After the first game of the year they've struggled the last two, but are 3-0 nonetheless.

Minny- Lost to Bowling Green, and almost lost to Miami of OHIO!

NW- they have struggled

Iowa- Looked bad against Northern Illinois, and lost today to IOWA State, who lost to Kent State.

Indiana- Been beating up on lesser teams, and had a dog fight with Akron today.

Illionois- Lost to Missouri and didn't look too good against Syracuse, and well syracuse is just horrible.

As of right now here's the peckin order on who's been playing the best.

1A) Ohio State (gets the nod because we've won away from home in a hostile environment)
1B) Penn State
2) Wisconsin
3) Purdue

Now compare this to the B12, ACC, and Big East. I'm not arguing our conference isn't very strong this year. I'm arguing that the media bs being thrown around (ie: halftime of MSU game, "Does the B10 have a team worthy of the Rose Bowl? No." -- implies we should give up our BCS berth, and become a midmajor conference. That is absolutely ridiculous.)

Underachieved? Yes. Is it "down" this year? Without a doubt.
Should they relinquish their BCS berth to the SEC, disband and throw half the teams into the MAC like the media seems to be implying?

So you are arguing their hyperbole with your own?

I don't see where calling the performance of the Big 10 an "embarrassment" is much of a stretch.

If anyone was calling for your array of overreactions, I would disagree. However, the facts are there, the Big 10 has been a major disappointment and some of these losses can be considered embarrassing.

Duke

Florida Atlantic

D-1AA Appalachian State..against the conference favorite no less.

I understand your point and your pride in the matter, but in all reality, the conference has been worthy of the jokes thus far.

What's hyperbole? That the B10 is no worse than half the other BCS conferences, while ESPN says the B10 doesn't deserve the Rose Bowl?

If they're going to throw around jokes at the other conferences too, I'm all for it. I'm just calling them on the bs I see.

My comment about Herbie was contextual -- I see him as pandering to the popular opinion ALL the time on ESPN. And then people post that on Ohio radio he says different things. (Specifically relating to the SEC speed myth.)

You referred to only QBs on the schedule...I was referring to QBs who will likely be in the path in early January.

In a nutshell, Locker=Tebow-Lite.

Tebow and Florida looked unreal today.

If we have to worry about QBs piling on rushing yards, then we'd really be in trouble. PJ Hill is a big worry. Mike Hart. Whoever Penn State's got. We are going to run into a couple of physical teams in the big ten in the latter part of the season. I get the sense that our defense will be fine against teams that have to go to the pass. It's when we go up against a Barry Alveraz-like team that will put the game on the line based on their ability to run it up our throat that we will really know what we are made out of. Quite frankly, since the NIU game of last year, we haven't show that we can shut down a team that is determined to run it up our throat.

Garrett Wolfe ran up 171 yards against us.
Selvin Young had 94 yards on 11 carries, and Texas was slashing the running lanes at will at times before Smith put the game away.
Tony Hunt's 134 yard effort kept PSU in the game until late INTs put it away.
Iowa with Young and particularly Sims did a good job slashing open the running lanes before Smith put the game away.

Our defense then went on a tear against the likes of Illinois, Northwestern, Bowling Green, Minnesota, Michigan State and Indiana, but then the last two games...

142 yards to Mike Hart (and that's with Michigan playing big time catch-up most of the game) and then Florida.

Basically our run defense dominated against the really crappy teams, and were bailed out by Troy Smith against the mediocre to good teams when the scoreboard dictated that the other teams had to score quickly to keep up. This year, forget about it. If you are Iowa, if you are PSU, if you are Wisconsin, if you are Michigan, if you are Purdue, you look at Ohio State and you don't see the name Troy Smith on the roster, you are just going to keep on running the ball until Ohio State proves that it can close the lanes. That's what we gotta be worried about.
