I expect the OSU-USC game to be a great, closely contested game. That said, I imagine Boeckman will play most of it and no matter how talented Pryor is, I dont expect him to have a major impact aside from short yardage plays. You just cant rationally expect a freshman who has yet to see even a good NCAA defense to come in and tear apart a great college defense. He may someday be the second coming of Vince Young but that will happen years down the road, not as a freshman.

I know most posters on Buckeyeplanet neither think nor wish that Pryor will play for large parts of the USC game. The notion was more prevalent on wearesc.com where a fair amount of SC fans were convicned that Boeckman was going to play cleanup for Pryor. I doubt it.

Bauserman also got meaningful snaps, and his first drive was right after Pryor's, IIRC. We aren't in the traditional "2-QB system"...we're trying to get Pryor spun up as soon as practical, but Boeckman still had the lion's share of snaps.

Folks think PC ran up the score because he kept Sanchez in for as long as he did, not because he let the backup QBs throw a few passes. Letting backup QBs get a few throws in not seen as running up the score as much as it is getting them some meaningful game experience.

Actually, Tim Tebow did pretty well spellling Leak, when he was a Freshman. Pryor is just as good as Tebow was as a Freshman, and brings a needed dimension to our running game that we will use against USC.

Count on it...

Oh, I agree with Petey's strategy. Bottom line is that Sanchez is still (relatively) inexperienced and this is the only game action he would see before facing tOSU. Smart move on his part getting him as much game action as possible.

Agreed, that would be NC State followed closely by Dook. Virginia is bad this year though.

Is worse than Duke sufficiently bad?

I agree that the quarterback play is probably biased a bit but still, the entire second string offense came in on the third series when the game was 10-0. There were a lot of backups playing significant minutes. There is probably a better statistic of participation by second string players but the pass attempts was amazingly easy to gather. The trend and point was made. Yes USC looked good but it didn't tell the whole story. The underlying story about true quality of opponents and amount of backup playing time needs to be added as a footnote.

who friggin' cares if they're the "worst" ACC team. the bottom line is that they're a perennial mid-pack/bottom feeder in the worst BCS conference. in other words, they suck.

I have no problem with the backups getting reps, but USC is not in your traditional situation where the starter got the lion's share of training camp reps. Corp and Mustain got a lot of reps for the weeks when Sanchez was down. This was Sanchez's 4th start and he missed a large chunk of training camp, so I agree with the decision to leave him in longer.

I Think that CPC left him in so long was because he missed 3 weeks of fall camp and this was the only game experience he will get before the osu game. As for running up the score, I have to disagree. people are entitled to their opinion, and in my opinioin, having played football up through high school, I dont think CPC runs up the score. At least not as much as I would like!:biggrin:

I have a question for the USC fans. I did not get to see much of the UVA game, just parts of the first quarter. From the highlights, it looked like UVA was unable to get any real pressure on Sanchez, and the DBs got burnt quite often by the USC WRs, making it possible for MS to loft the ball up and let his WRs run under it. Was that how it really was, or just a few big plays?

I would be surprised if Pryor came in for a whole series. It's however much more likely that he would come for a play here, a play there. Just enough to keep the USC D on its heels as much as we can. With a D as aggressive as theirs with some burners in deep ball country, we'll have to depend on solid short-to-mid range throws and enough time for a 3 step drop.

Pryor is fully capable of keeping at least one extra defender on spy to open up the middle of the field. I'm thinking we will see him in situations that lend to his type of play, like 2nd and long. Boeckman will see the bulk of the snaps in this game, and I certainly don't expect a 2-qb "system" per se, such as UT '05. The only way this happens is if Pryor puts on a spectacle.

Totally disagree. If JT puts Pryor in, it'll be for a whole drive. Pryor can freeze the defense with the pistol fake, run the option, escape the rush better, and hit those same short to mid throws. If you put Pryor in for only one play at a time, he won't be as effective and the defense will assume he's just in for a gimmick play...keep him in for a series and the defense can't assume it's the same play over and over and will have to guess "What next?"
