Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

Can he ever. I was getting pissed because the BTN camera folks couldn't follow the ball whenever he did it.

I'm watching the replay on BTN, saw the play where Pryor fakes to MoWells and Pryor isn't even seen on the screen until he's 7 yards down field and running out of bounds.

Then I saw his TD run again.

Boo-yah.

Totally disagree. If JT puts Pryor in, it'll be for a whole drive. Pryor can freeze the defense with the pistol fake, run the option, escape the rush better, and hit those same short to mid throws. If you put Pryor in for only one play at a time, he won't be as effective and the defense will assume he's just in for a gimmick play...keep him in for a series and the defense can't assume it's the same play over and over and will have to guess "What next?"
I tend to agree with you, but why not throw TP in for a play and have it not be a gimmick play? It would disrupt TB's flow, but it would also disrupt the defense's flow; and, if they assumed it was a gimmick play, he could get them good. If he stayed in for 2-3 plays in one drive, I think he could do some damage.

I would like to see TP throw a deep ball against OU. He didn't attempt anything over 10 yds against YSU, which is good for getting his feet wet, but if he makes a good looking deep pass against the Bobcats, it will give the USC DC one more thing to worry about.

Come to think of it, this game is much more winnable than I thought. Illinois was able to expose some pretty big holes against that defense, and the key difference in their offense is that Sanchez is not as steady and poised as Booty.

Regarding how much time we'll see Pryor, I think we'll see him a whole lot, probably half and half or even more. And this is not a slight to Boeckman, but rather a reflection of the fact that teams have a hard time driving methodically on SC's defense, much like how other teams have a hard time putting together 10 play 80 yard drives against our defense. The way to beat SC is have spasms of offensive output and big plays like Mendenhall's runs against them in the Rose Bowl. With Pryor back there, SC might put a safety in the box, which would allow Pryor to toss one deep to the Brians against single coverage. Beanie will do fine, probably carry it 20 times for 100 yards. But it'll be Pryor who will put us over the top.

My biggest worry is that Pryor may not react as fast to pressure as Boeckman due to a combination of natural confidence in his feet and youth. If he stays in the pocket for a tad too long and let the defense get too close because he believes his feet can bail him out, it would be a long night for him.

Same here. Not to mention there were brief moments of a gurgled looking screen. I'm not sure what that was from either, but I seen it on the replay again. Also, the fact I couldn't see it in HD was always a nice additional let down..Thanks tw

Well, I did just check out the TP thread and saw where Tressel was saying that TP would be the second QB in if Todd suffered an injury or something.

I found that slightly surprising.

And by no means so I think Bauserman will get much, if any playing time. I know this isn't OU or YSU where Tressel just wants to get playing time. But after reading his comments about TP, I think this kid really does have "it."

Pryor will get see the field against SC because he brings something unique to the table. I think Bauserman will only see the field if there are injuries or if the game is out of reach. Hopefully neither will happen.

I dunno, I wouldn't mind being up 21 deep in the 4th and Joe get some reps.

:oh:
