Just for you!

:oh:

That's why I had to get out of Toledo and migrate South to Perrysburg, the meatchicken fans and the politicians...

...it really is us against everyone else (apparently except CFN).
Well, the only part of "everyone else" that matters there is the USC football team. But with respect to the parenthetical comment, Pete Fiutak at CFN was one of the very few who picked OSU to upset Miami in the '03 Fiesta Bowl. Which isn't to say that Fiutak's prediction is worth anything more than the pure speculation it is. But Kurt Sexington's dislike of Fiutak, and completely false assertion that Fiutak frequently picks against USC aside (CFN's preseason predictions for USC over the last four years have been 12-0, 11-2, 12-0, and 10-2), I personally think Fiutak is perhaps the best national college football writer out there.

Looking to Prove Itself on a National Stage

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? The last two times Ohio State stepped onto college football?s biggest stage, the Buckeyes imploded famously.

In the Bowl Championship Series title game against Florida two years ago, the Buckeyes? offensive line was manhandled by the Gators in a 41-14 loss. Last season, in the championship game against Louisiana State, a blur of personal-foul penalties combined with poor quarterback protection and porous defense sent Ohio State to a 38-24 loss.
Now, with the fifth-ranked Buckeyes visiting No. 1 Southern California on Saturday for perhaps the marquee game of the regular season, they are accompanied by a bandwagon full of skeptics. Ohio State?s performance this season has created the doubts. Against Ohio on Saturday, the Buckeyes trailed, 14-12, heading into the fourth quarter before winning, 26-14.
The good news for the team is that the star tailback, Chris Wells, is expected to play after missing the Ohio game with an injured right big toe. The bad news is that his injury and the Buckeyes? performance Saturday portend another high-profile flop.

Patton: USC eats OSUs for breakfast

LOS ANGELES - Saturday's Ohio State game has been on USC's schedule longer than any player has been on campus. But if it's been a red-letter day for fans and media for awhile, rest assured the Trojans themselves haven't been hyper-ventilating over it.
Since USC has climbed its way back to the top shelf of college football this decade, everyone-is-talking games are just part of the landscape.
Senior Fili Moala said he thinks he was first aware of the game about two years ago, but didn't give it a second thought.
"I've been influenced by the program," the defensive tackle said. "You don't think about things except the task ahead of you."
Even a potential matchup against another perennial Bowl Championship Series program? Nope.
Running back Allen Bradford said he heard about the game last year but didn't think about it much, even when he watched the Buckeyes play LSU in the BCS title game.
"It's Ohio State," the former Colton High star said, shrugging, "I just thought it's going to be a good game."

These are done by the CFN Staff. Fiutak on his own has been rather consistently suspicious of USC over the past three years which, when you look at the Trojans record, he might actually have had reason to be (Stanford, anyone?)
That said, my gripe with Fiutak was not his predicted score, as a explicitly pointed out, but rather the actual meat of his prediction which I found hilariously misinformed. To say that OSU needs to beat USC the way Jonathan Stewart and Dennis Dixon did is like saying USC needs to beat OSU the way Illinois did last year. Oregon had a moibile quarterback, ran the spread, and was playing at home against SCs backup quarterback. In this years edition, OSU is playing at SC, running a pro style offense with a pro style QB (albeit with a freshman QB that is a mobile backup) against SC's first string. There is basically nothing OSU can glean from watching game tape of last year's loss to Oregon, which makes Fiutak's article as laughably bad as it is.

Look, OSU may well win this game, possibly by a lot more than 4 points. But that doesnt change the fact that Fiutak's prediction was lazily written and seemed to be based on 2007 opposed to 2008 which is the actual season this game will be taking place in.

it should be noted that the poor white farm boy spread has been utilized in the past... i wouldnt be suprised to see a sprinkle of craig krenzel circa miami 2003 if the sledding is tough. it wont be razzle dazzle but it will be a kid who is the all time leading home run hitter in ohio high school baseball history, a kid who was all state in basketball/football and baseball lumbering down the field at 6-5 250lbs. it wont be pretty, but i think it could be effective...

Well said. Especially since the first paragraph states that...

It's finally here. It might have lost a little luster after Ohio State's average performance in a win over Ohio, but this is still the game of the year as Mark Sanchez and USC try to roll past Terrelle Pryor's Buckeyes?

Last I checked, this is a Mr. Todd Boeckman's team.

Who knows. If OSU looks at tape of USC and says "We need to break out the Oregon style spread to beat these dudes" more power to them. Will Tressell actually need or want to do this? Probably not. I know Fiutak has been watching CFB for along time, but that doesnt make him intelligent, which he isnt. Saying that OSU will win a game if they play like a team which used a totally different offense a year ago against a completely different USC team is just poor journalism. What Fiutak wrote is exactly like saying "USC will win if they can do what Illinois did to OSU when the used Mendenhall and Williams to run all over the Buckeyes." What the hell? How are we suppoed to do that, Pete? Maybe we should start direct snapping to Gable in the backfield and get him to run around with McKnight as if he's the QB! Let's look at it this way: Does anyone here REALLY think Tressell has even watched the game tape from last year's Oregon or Stanford losses? I would bet you top dollar that Tressell hasN,t even bothered because, unlike Fiutak, he realizes that games that areplayed in 2008 are won in 2008. Watching a game that took place last year against a USC team that only vaguely ressembles the current edition is just a waste of time.

I'm reasonable about almost everything, but I have felt for years that Fiutak, like most sports journalist and analysts, is just a hack. You do not prognosticate for 2008 based on games that happened in 2007, Pete!

Again, I have no problem with the prediction, just the utter tool behind it. Since when is this Pryor's team? Pryor might not even take any snaps in this game depending on how Boeckman plays, for crying out loud!

I would bet top dollar that Jim Tressel has watched those tapes and on the flipside, that Pete Carrol has watched tape of the OSU/Illinois game and especially the OSU/LSU game from 2007. Either would be a fool not to. That's their job as a coaches.
