Game Thread Ohio State 27, Iowa 24 (final, OT, 11/14/09) - Rose Bowl bound!!!

Looks like they operated on Stanzi's ankle:
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP)?Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says junior quarterback Ricky Stanzi has had surgery to repair a severely sprained ankle and is ?very doubtful? for Iowa?s final two regular season games.
Stanzi injured his right ankle in the second quarter of No. 15 Iowa?s 17-10 loss to Northwestern last weekend and did not return.

Ferentz says redshirt freshman James Vandenberg is now the No. 1 quarterback for the Hawkeyes (9-1, 5-1 Big Ten). He will make his first career start Saturday at No. 10 Ohio State (8-2, 5-1).
Vandenberg was 9 of 27 passing for 82 yards and an interception against Northwestern.
Stanzi started all 10 games this season, throwing for 2,186 yards with 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Ferentz says that he believes Stanzi has a good chance to play in a bowl game.

Some interesting stats about the suppossed OSU/PSU rivalry:

They have not scored more than 1 offensive touchdown against us since 2005, with the second of those coming on a 2 yard drive. Without that year, they haven't scored more than 1 offensive touchdown against Ohio State since 2001, Tressel's first year as head coach.

Offensive Touchdowns
2009: 1 (GL sneak)
2008: 1 (GL sneak)
2007: 1 (also scored on a kickoff return)
2006: none
2005: 2 (1 was a GL sneak on a 2 yard drive)
2004: 1
2003: 1 (also scored on a INT return)
2002: none

Now we haven't exactly lit up the scoreboard against them either, to be fair. In Tressel's tenure we are 6-3 against the Nittany Lions, with one of the losses coming in Tressel's first year.

Since Penn State brought in the "Spread HD" offense, they have averaged 10 points against us per game.

Overall since 2002, Penn State's offense has averaged 10.4 ppg against us. In comparison, our defense and PR/KR have averaged 5.25 points per game in the same time period.

Just thought that it was interesting that once you look at the numbers, PSU is not quite the daunting rival that we build them up to be year in and year out.

Look for me to do a similar numerical breakdown after the Iowa game. Go Bucks!

I sure do feel good about this game too, but this year's Buckeye team never has me extremely confident. We beat Wisconsin by 18, lose to Purdue by 8. Shouldn't Wisky get destroyed by Purdue? Quite the opposite.

But man, it's tough to imagine this redshirt freshman moving the ball against this defense.

Ferentz isn't crafty enough to doctor up a surgeon's records (operated on Stanzi - not)......so I guess he's out. Still, it is Iowa, and they're not a bad team all around, probably the best O-line in the league (yes, including OSU's), and the 'backers and D-line are stout as well. It won't be the cakewalk that I'm reading here. Should the Buckeyes romp - yes. Will they - dunno. I'm taking OSU and giving the points, but I seem to recall that they came into the 'Shoe, and pasted one on OSU when we had a fair team (04?), and we've been trading black eyes ever since.

If they put TP on his backside a couple of times early, then it's a game. OSU has the intangibles, Senior day, first trip to the Rose Bowl in 12 years (I was there in 1997 against Az St), so there's a lot to fight for, AND, I'd like a shot at USC again (for the team's sake, not mine!).

Oh and by the way, the emotion of storming the field for a trip to the Rose is very college. If you want to sip white wine and eat quiche, go to a Niner game, and watch a win with dispassion. Else, yell, scream, and enjoy yourself on the field after the game. Beer and brats!

:gobucks3::gobucks4::banger: Go Bucks! Win the battle of the 'Eyes!

any chance that our d gives up more than seven? doubt it. iowa looked lost against NW when their backup was in. looking forward to winning the B10 this weekend in a big OSU win. i think itl be 35-7 with a couple defensive TDs. definitely gna storm the field considering my seats are four rows up from the endzone haha

I smell shutout #4...

I don't remember Iowa being shutout for a long time....in fact I can't remember the last time. It certainly hasn't happened in the last 6-7 years. I think Ferentz finds a way of getting the Hawkeyes some points (FGs).

Didn't shutout no.4 happen last weekend? lol

You recall incorrectly...that '04 33-7 beatdown was at Iowa. By the way, that win was Iowa's biggest margin-of-victory win over us ever...ever.
