Game Thread Ohio State 24, Michigan State 17 (final)

I seriously doubt that; seeing how many times tOSU was kept out of the NC game beca use of having just one loss to TSUN.
or that 98' MSU game... - I'm sure most of us are still bitter.

Have you won in Ann Arbor since 1990?

Lost any 3OT games to "them" lately?

have about 65miles between any of your rivals ???

And I root for OSU and MSU... The hate is exponentially greater.

Living next to these arrogant assholes multiplies it many times over...

I'm not worried about the ground game, mostly because I think we're going to concentrate on stopping that. But have you seen their passing stats? not bad. I do like the fact that MSU has given up a healthy number of sacks. I'd love to see tOSU get 6 or 7 this weekend.

I'm looking forward to a coaching strategy battle, too. Will we see some tricks on offense that Tress has been saving??

I look for MSU to have about 90 yards rushing, about 220 through the air, we win the turnover battle and win 34-13.

MSU will be good - NEXT year.
go Bucks - just win, baby!

I'd say your pretty damn close there, I'd expect more like 150 rushing yards (120 net), and a little less passing yardage.

The MSU OL is finally healthy, literally for the first time since the first game of the season so it's tough to get a gauge on how many sacks MSU is going to give up.

Hoyer is freaking awesome when he gets rid of the ball, but lacks very good pocket presence. He 'turtles up' 9 times out of 10 whenever pressure is around so I'd say 4 sacks would be the minimum you guys get...

A MSU tidbit: In 1959 a young Qb got his first collegiate start against MSU and threw 3 touchdown passes., two to Jim Houston. Bob Ferguson had a 55 yard run for another.
The Qb ........ Tom Matte.

Like Mili said a couple pages back this team is going to be one demensional against us. Infact the only team left on our schedule who has the capability to challenge us through the air and on the ground is those guys up north. MSU? Sure they have great stats both on the ground/through the air but who have they played? It's going to be the same case as Purdue from 2 weeks ago when they left saying "We haven't seen speed like this". PSU? No, just no. Wisconsin? No, they have a slow running back, and zero recievers due to injury. Illinois? Williams passing the ball?? NO.

The only team left is Michigan who has hart running the ball, and they do have talented recieving core.

In the beginning of the year I was nervous for a couple games but after Washington I've realized something. Jenkins/Washington really take out the other teams two best recievers very well. When was the last time we were beaten deep? We haven't been....Our secondary I think without a doubt is the best we've had since tressel has been here as far as covering is concerned. They eliminate other teams recieving weapons FORCING the QB to pick other targets, and in college this is usually something QB's are uncomfortable doing. Usually Qb's have a target and can get away with just forcing the ball to them, but with Jenkins/Washington/Chikwa it forces them to go to their #2 and sometimes #3 options which is HUGE.

I didn't get to watch the game last week, but from listening it sounded like we struggled tackling? That's expected with #21, #33, and #92 out though. This week the spartans live on the deep ball and it won't be there. Hell it won't be there the whole year for opposing teams. Trying to run the ball all the way down the field to score is much harder than picking yards up in chunks, especially considering how the OSU defense will win some/most of the battles. We force teams to earn everything they get and I don't think MSU can do that (consistantly atleast)

31-10 and the more I think of this game the more I think we own this game. Besides this is our first game #1 and I think our boys will wanna prove a point. Statement game right here.

(this is also MSU's shot as proving themselves too though)

I don't know if it's because you're looking to make friends with random dudes on the internet or maybe you're just not a big MSU fan, but either way please leave the Spartan bashing to our opponents. If you want to denigrate "our" program, do it on spartantailgate.com. I am offended by your willingness to put down a team that you supposedly bleed for. That's bush man. Most of the Buckeye fans on this board have shown more respect for MSU's squad this year than you have. Frankly, it's embarrassing. Do all of us a favor and find another team to root for (or should I say against).

I don't expect a one-dimensional attack. I expect the RBs to get more yards than we like, for Hoyer to make some nice plays (UM passovers doing well thus far... Sharpley too)... but for us to hold them well enough in check to win. Oh, and there's that grossly inequal matchup the other half of the time.

I have a feeling this will be a classic bend-but-don't-break defense against Sparty's running attack. Once the running game reaches the red zone, the defense will get bunched up and much stingier.

Sparty vs. Sparty on a Buckeye message board! I'll just open a beer, sit back, and enjoy the show...

You won't find much bashing here, I'm sure. We definitely respect and like your coach a great deal (thankfully JLS didn't last), and you'll hear plenty of praise for Ringer, since he's a guy that a lot of people wanted to see in the S&G. Hoyer is another Ohio guy that we like seeing do well. Personally, I think the Spartans are going to be the best team we've played to date, and possibly until we go to AA.

Your offense is well-balanced and effective, and will be a nice test to see how good our defense really is. If there's a weakness that we're pointing to, it's your defense, which is ironic considering your coach. You've got a shot if they play their best game yet, or if our offense sputters.

Coaches Dantonio, Tressel not exactly alike

Jim Naveau | [email protected] - 10.18.2007

COLUMBUS ? As long as Ohio State?s Jim Tressel and Michigan State?s Mark Dantonio coach against each other, people will look for similarities and ask if there is a little bit more of a rivalry in the game because the two worked together for years and are friends.
And as long as they coach against each other, the two participants will downplay the personal side of the game.
Dantonio was Ohio State?s defensive coordinator from 2001-2003 and was Tressel?s defensive coordinator at Youngstown State from 1986-1990. He is in his first season at Michigan State after being Cincinnati?s head coach for three seasons.
Similarities in his program and Tressel?s aren?t hard to find going into Saturday?s OSU-MSU game at Ohio Stadium.
Start with the countdown clock.

Not looking to make 'friends', I already have friends, and friends that are buckeye fans. I'm looking to have semi interesting football discussion and spartantailgate isn't the best place for that and anything other than OD'ing on Green Kool-Aid would get you banned on the MSU Rivals site.

Not going to get into a pissing match with you. For some peeps nothing but being a blind homer is being a 'fan', I guess that is your position.

I posted facts. Nothing else. I very much like the direction Coach D is going, but I think MSU has a ways to go.

Look at NU, the similar opponent for both schools, which both faced @ home, and then please act like MSU anything other than a 2% chance of winning on Saturday...

You have to lay 10k on the bucks winning straight up to win a hundred right now, I think that speaks to the state of both programs better than anything I can say.

I took out all the We references and replaced them with MSU since I'm such a horrible fan, the kind of fan that has driven to ATL to watch the Elite 8, and gone to San Antonio, Tx to watch "us" get annihilated in the Alamo Bowl...
