Wednesday, October 17, 2007
BIG TEN NOTEBOOK
MIKE POPOVICH

You can count on it during the telecast of Ohio State?s home game against Michigan State on Saturday. ABC will dig into its archives for highlights of the 1998 Buckeyes-Spartans game.

Ohio State?s rise to No. 1 this week gives the network an added incentive to flash back to one of the darkest moments in Buckeyes history.

Banged up Bucks are expected back
JASON LLOYD, Morning Journal Writer
10/17/2007

COLUMBUS -- James Laurinaitis, as he predicted on Saturday, was expected to return to practice yesterday and be 100 percent for Michigan State this week. Laurinaitis left Saturday's win over Kent State with a hip pointer, but said afterward he would be fine for this week's game.

Three days of rest have proven him correct.

Anderson Russell isn't quite as far along as Laurinaitis, but Jim Tressel said yesterday he expects Russell to be back on the field Saturday. Russell will have a lighter week of practice after rolling his ankle against the Golden Flashes.

''I don't expect him to miss a beat on Saturday,'' Tressel said. ''He just kind of got rolled from behind and fortunately it was one of those games where you could rest it. But I would expect both of those guys to be full speed and ready to go.''

By Tim May

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Don't scratch Ohio State safety Anderson Russell just yet from the starting lineup for a game Saturday against Michigan State. "He's going to be OK come Saturday," cornerback Donald Washington predicted yesterday after practice. "He did a couple of things today."

Spartans buck collapse trend

Wednesday, October 17, 2007 3:38 AM
By Bob Baptist

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
When Michigan State's 4-0 start under coach Mark Dantonio was followed by back-to-back losses to Wisconsin and Northwestern, the Spartans could not escape the ghosts of collapses past. "We kept hearing 'Same old Spartans,' " running back Javon Ringer said.

Huh. I know I was at the 2003 game, but I don't remember anything about. Strike that. I remember a kickoff return for a td by MSU. But that is it. Hmmm....maybe a punt return for OSU? Or that may have been the home game against Iowa. Good lord, I just don't remember. I guess that might be a little off-topic anyways. Nevermind.

My mind is like an ancient rusty bear trap. :smash:

I meant that I remember everything about those two bowl games for you guys and the uOFm vs tOSU games but just not which happened what year...

I probably could have figured it out since I saw MSU get slaughtered in the Alamo Bowl in 03', that you guys didn't play there until 04'...

Sparty Week. Ugh. I hate Michigan St.

Fuck Nick Saban, Bill Burke, Plaxico Burress, Sedrick Irvin, Paul Edinger, Renaldo Hill, Julian Peterson, Robaire Smith, and whoever the hell else was on that '98 team. Ok?

Just. Fuck you.

I would think the one you would be 'fucking' the most would be Cooper.

Don't forget Gari Scott, Lavaille Richardson, Lamar Marshall, Amp Campbell, Paul Harker (true freshman starting and playing the whole game at right guard), TJ Turner, Josh Thornhill, Chris Baker... Most of which got a cup of coffee in the NFL at least...

Hey, it's just for this week! :)

I can handle it.

My uncle and his whole family are from Van Wert and his parents and all their siblings were :osu: grads. He's an MSU grad and he pretty much brought me up on sports...

And as he says "Nobody hates Michigan more than we do... Nobody"

worried about the aerial battle

I'm not worried about the ground game, mostly because I think we're going to concentrate on stopping that. But have you seen their passing stats? not bad. I do like the fact that MSU has given up a healthy number of sacks. I'd love to see tOSU get 6 or 7 this weekend.

I'm looking forward to a coaching strategy battle, too. Will we see some tricks on offense that Tress has been saving??

I look for MSU to have about 90 yards rushing, about 220 through the air, we win the turnover battle and win 34-13.

MSU will be good - NEXT year.
go Bucks - just win, baby!
