Game Thread Ohio State 24, Michigan State 17 (final)

I've been reading a Sparty blog. They know they are in for a fight and that they need a balanced game. They are depending a lot on Ringer because they think they cannot win if he doesn't get a goodly amount of yards.
Over half think we backed into and don't deserve the N01 ranking. They like Dantonio a lot, as they should.

Dantonio is going to turn the MSU implosions around. But, we handle them this year.

It's funny, MD is making me start to respect this team. I've hated the Spartans ever since they brought flag-planting to the Big 10. John L is a loser for many reasons, but allowing that crap is the #1 reason why I hope he stays far away from Big 10 football for the rest of his pathetic life.

this very well could be our first shutout.... ONLY if we do a bang up job stopping the run, which is one of our strengths. Hell our pass D is good too so how do they attack us? I don't see MSU as a threat as far as through the air and especially to the deep ball which they live on. Shut down the run, and you shut down MSU it's not that hard to figure out really. I don't think we're going to get a shut out this year for the simple reason being we never keep our starters in long enough to get one. In saying that though this MSU team lives by the run and we've prided ourselves on stopping the run the past 4-6 years. So it should be interesting to see and getting Denlinger back will be huge, not to mention having Russell/Animal still starting.

Our rush defense stats are somewhat skewed by our sacks and the fact that we jump out to a big lead early and many teams have to play catch-up. I think MSU will get their yards on the ground against us, but they'll be one-dimensional and I think that even if we give up 200 yards or so on the ground MSU won't sniff 20 points.

MSU's defense is not good at all. They gave up 37 to Wisconsin, 41 to Northwestern in regulation, and 27 to Indiana over the last three weeks. No reason why we can't put up 40+ on them...

with our defense I find that pretty unlikely

You make it sound like it's the D's fault they haven't recorded a shutout yet. The offense blew it for them in the Akron game, the kickoff coverage unit blew it for them in the NU game, and the punt team blew it for them against KSU.

I said "blew" a lot, didn't I?

How do you figure??

Purdon't scored with about 10 seconds left against 2nd and 3rd teamers.

Crackron only scored because of a safety. The defense wasn't even on the field obviously.

Northwestern got a break in OSU's kick coverage (and a missed tackle) and broke a 100 yard KO return. That's not really on the defense either.

Kent State only scored because Ohio State had both called off the dogs offensively and put in a guy to get a live rep as a punter who probably wouldn't have otherwise seen the field. And again they could only muster a FG against 3rd teamers at that point.

If Ohio State can get a relatively large lead early 2+ TD, Michigan State is relatively one dimensional.

Maybe, hopefully our DBs will have practiced their catching, I think there is a good chance for 3 or 4 INTs this week....

Injuries won't stop defense

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State safety Anderson Russell, who injured his right ankle against Kent State and was on crutches after the game, likely will play against Michigan State.
Coach Jim Tressel said the star sophomore will be held back in practice but added, "I don't expect him to miss a beat Saturday."
