Game Thread Ohio State 23, Purdue 7 (final)

The Purdue fans have no idea how bad their team just got their asses kicked. This is the hallmark of Jim Tressel football. He is almost always in complete control, despite what the opposition may think.
Before the last garbage time drive, Purdue had 182 yards of offense and 0 points; on the season, they were averaging 495 yards and 45 points per game; even after the TD drive against the "prevent D", the Boilermakers had only 268 yards, roughly half of their season average. Yeah, I'd say that it was an ass kicking of the first order.

BTW, I hope all of the Freeman and MoWells bashers give it a rest after tonight.

Oh, and Tressel didn't need to visit the Saints to figure out how to run an offense.

Dude relax...I'm not anti-JT or anything crazy like that. Didn't say he needed help running an offense. I think we'll all agree to that. Just merely saying that visiting the Saints gives the appearance that he's interested in utilizing Mo (and probably Saine as well) in more of a Bush type roll.

that was a BIG TIME ass kicking... but it's too bad the score doesn't show how badly we had this game. It honestly felt like the NW game, and thats being generous. I still think its unbelievable how they went hurry up offense and started calling timeouts with UNDER 4 minutes to play down by 23.

This reminds me of the time when playing high school ball and the opposing team started moving the ball on the scrubs and started to get cocky about moving the ball on back-ups. Well the coach just put the starters back in and ended their so called good feelings. The coach should've understood that Tressel not only took his foot off the gas but also hit the breaks as well. Tiller/Purdue should've started jus running the clock down and understood it could've been a lot worse..

We're cool. Let's just celebrate a good victory!

Yeah that's a shame. They are doing so well this year too

Damn impressive win. This D is sick. I gotta say that overall they may be better than the 02 D. (Ok let the beatings begin) *bends over* :)

Tress took his foot off the gas in the 2nd quarter. You could see the Purdue wasnt gonna move the ball on us. Everything was vanilla for the last 3 quarters, and that was without Beanie in the game (for the most part, he cannot cut on that ankle without it hurting, you can tell)

Just another win for JT. He doesn't go for style points, especially relatively this early in the year. It's all about taking the next steps: developing quality depth, use game situations to teach (for example, even though PU scored, the hands team had an opportunity to practice in a game setting), a lot of guys played, which is critical to team morale. Sometimes, the score is no indicator of what was gained in terms of a team's growth.

WTF is Todd doing?? He needs to take some of that air off the ball.

the amount of air under the ball is fine. it's standing there and staring the receiver down for 5 seconds before you throw the ball towards him that's not. he's telegraphing his throws, and that's easy pickings for any decent safety. do not worry. Todd will soon learn to look the safety off.

A few preliminary thoughts on the game.

1. That was a Jim Tressel Blowout. Defense dominated, Purdue was never in the game, Ohio State just controlled the game from start to finish.

2. This secondary, wow. Just wow. Four big time receivers for Purdue, and they couldn't muster a single point until we called it quits on the last drive. Donald Washington is turning out to be a star, and considering it's a defense that already has James Laurinaitis and Malcolm Jenkins, that's saying a lot. He had a pretty damn good game.

3. -9 yards rushing when I checked before we went prevent. This team is incredible against the run. I can't wait until we play Michigan State and Illinois, and they get a real test.

4. Boeckman falls in love with the deep ball. I think he tends to want to throw that every time there's man coverage on someone. Robiskie doesn't have the speed to get him open when he beats his man by half a step. Boeckman can't just throw that ball. I think he needs to start thinking possession, and not home run.

5. Beanie's ankle...I don't know if it's really tender, or if they just wanted to keep an eye on it and limit his carries. But that's really starting to worry me.

6. I wasn't sold on this team as a top 5 team, but now I am, on defense alone even. And with the youth on the team...they'll only get better as the year goes on.

7. All that said, Ohio State may still be the second best team in Ohio.
