Game Thread Ohio State 20, Wisconsin 17 (Oct. 4)

This is exactly what I was talking about holding back. 3rd and long with over a minute to go on the clock and we call a running play up the gut instead of going for the first down. Fast forward and Wisconsin drives down the field to go up by 3 (could've been 7) at half. We have to stop doing this. It's ridiculous. Whenever there's over a minute on the clock and the other team gets the ball after half, you try to drive down the field. You do not run the ball on 3rd and long, allowing them to come back and take the lead.

Now their O takes the field with the score in their favor.

Yeah and you throw there and they likely run a play on the 3 yard line because they would have had nearly 10 seconds left on the clock.

They had already tried to go down the field but it didn't work.

Let's hope for another Wisconsin 2nd half meltdown. Otherwise I think it's going to be a long game and a long season as well. It makes me feel sick to think of what scUM's defense did in the 2nd half against Wiscy and yet we can't do it.

Yes, Ohio State blitzes quite often, in fact.

But, if your DL can't beat anybody, then what's a blitz supposed to accomplish? It just gives the TE and FB something to do other than standing around watching their OL maul our DL....

I noticed one in particular where Hines came off the edge and it seemed he started too late. Qb got rid of with plenty of time.

the DL merely runs directly into the OL... and tries to 'outmuscle'... but no attempt to outmaneuver... the 300 lb Wisky lineman are not going to be outmuscled... if we don't blitz, we're in for more of the same...

Larimore is getting manhandled...

I think Tress needs to tell the o-line at half time that we are going to give the ball to Beanie the second half and if they dont start to block they are FIRED(in his best Donald Trump voice).

Pass rush???? Pass rush where for art though?????

Sweet baby Jesus our O/D-lines have not heavily controlled one game this year.

As far as talent goes Wisconsin is maybe third....possibly 4th in the big Ten.

We needed to burn some time (if only a tiny bit, or at least force a TO by wisky), and we had, the way we were playing, as good an opportunity for a 1st down with that play as a passing play, not to mention not having the potential for them taking a short field, given our ball control this half.

Good call, sounds bad, but good.
