While Underwood might be the lone five-star quarterback right now, plenty of arms will likely push for that same status at some point over the next year or so. That group includes
Tavien St. Clair, who
entered the Top247 back in May after
Cutter Boley reclassified to 2024, and now sits No. 35 overall in the rankings.
The Ohio State commit improved significantly between his freshmen and sophomore seasons at Ohio’s Bellefontaine High, going from a 55 percent passer to a 70.5 percent passer. In short, St. Clair is a dynamic signal caller who can layer the football like few others his age.
“At the Under Armour Ohio camp in March and the Elite 11 Ohio Regional in April, it was apparent both times that Tavien was a national prospect,” Trieu said of St. Clair. “He really looked the part as far as how he was built, but he threw the ball cleanly and consistently. He had a lot more polish to him than we even expected. Combine that with the production he has had – the improving completion percentage and how well he takes care of the ball – and you have the picture of a top-end quarterback recruit. He is athletic enough to make plays with his feet, but he can also stand in the pocket and make throws, and that is what the blue-chip quarterbacks of 2023 look like."
Other quarterbacks inside the updated Top247 include:
George MacIntyre (No. 11),
Husan Longstreet (No. 57),
Akili Smith Jr. (No. 62),
Antwann Hill (No. 71),
TJ Lateef (No. 95), Texas commit
KJ Lacey (No. 105), TCU commit
Ty Hawkins (No. 193), Duce Knight (No. 203),
Bear Bachmeier (No. 213),
Madden Iamaleava (No. 239), and
Ryan Montgomery (No. 241).
