What? I can't hear you over all that damn buzzing.

WHAT'S THAT? I SAID...WHAT'S THAT? OH, I'M JUST ASKING JAKE TO PROVIDE MORE EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT HIS ARGUMENT.

MEANWHILE, THERE'S A FOUR RHINO PILEUP ON THE M3 SO I SUGGEST THAT YOU TAKE THE M5 TO THE N2 AND GO AROUND TO THE STADIUM....

African Nations' Chances??

So which African country(s) make it the furthest?

Cameroon looked sloppy, but had many chances. Ghana has the midfielders to possibly control a lot of games, Ivory Coast seems like it has the firepower (Drogba-less??) Algeria? I have no idea bout them...

And of course South Africa! I've got $5 on them making it to the 2nd round against a SA native! He's absolutely stoked the made a draw against Mexico.

My vote is that Ghana makes it the furthest this year.. Cameroon already lost, Ivory Coast is in the 'Group of Death' Algeria faces USA and England and South Africa... well I just don't know...

At the outset I predicted (on another blog) that none of the 5 African teams would advance to round 2...I am still somewhat comfortable with that prediction, though I think Ghana looks good to advance in their group right now. South Africa has a chance, but they are in a tough but wide open group with 2 games left and all to play for. I'd say Ghana and that's it, but I think only Cameroon and Algeria are out after 1 game.

You don't think Ivory Coast can make it out of their Group? Obviously, we will learn a lot about that tomorrow, but I think they can beat Portugal. I also like Ghana's chances. SA though... I hope so. But I doubt it,

I'm almost 100% on Ghana making it, and about 60/40 on Ivory Coast.

Portugal and Brazil are top 5 in the world right now in terms of ranking. I know Portugal has traditionally underachieved, but they have Ronaldo now and I just think they'll be too much for a Drogba-less IC.

After seeing the Germans play - both England and the US have to feel insipired to score early and often against Algeria and Slovenia.

If both of those teams advance - goal differential is the tie breaker, correct? So we'll need to run it up to face Ghana in the round of 16 as opposed to Das Germans.

I've yet to see any "Joga bonito" this World Cup.

A bit disappointing, but I guess expected for the first set of games. Teams have to start moving and pressing in their second matches as they see where they stand and I hope that brings some better/more open play.

Maybe altitude, ball, pitch conditions, stadiums, nerves, vuvuzelas, strategies, matchups, etc. combined to have some effects, but whatever it is I want some more beautiful play.

Didn't watch Germany play? They could have scored 6 goals easily!

We'll see if Brazil and Spain struggle. If so - then we know it's the conditions.

Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire make 6, along with those you mentioned.

For Cote d'Ivoire, it will probably come down to goal differential, as they tied Portugal today, and both of those teams could easily lose to Brazil and beat North Korea.

Oops...I forgot the hosts added a spot this year :!

Anyway, I was obviously surprised Vlade Divac and Portugal couldn't muster a single goal today, so yeah, I am guessing it will be who beats PRK by more...unfortunately if we fall asleep on Friday and draw with Slovenia we will be in the same potential position.
