Official FIFA 2010 World Cup Discussion

They don't have goal-line technology, but they want to get rid of draws?

More people were complaining about one rather than the other at the most-recent World Cup.

BBC Sport - Football - Fifa aims to end draws in World Cup group games

Sepp Blatter says Fifa is considering scrapping draws at the group stage of future World Cup finals by introducing penalty shoot-outs after 90 minutes.

Blatter, president of world football's governing body, is known for voicing radical ideas on changing the game.

He wants to put an end to defence-minded teams playing to get a draw.

"If there is no winner at the end of 90 minutes of play, we would proceed directly to penalty kicks," he told German magazine Focus.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- Paul the Octopus, the tentacled tipster who fascinated football fans by predicting results at the World Cup, died Tuesday.
Paul had reached the octopus old age of 2 1/2 years and died in his tank on Tuesday morning at the Sea Life aquarium in the western German city of Oberhausen, spokeswoman Ariane Vieregge said.
Paul correctly tipped the outcome of all seven of Germany's games. He made his predictions by opening the lid of one of two clear plastic boxes, each containing a mussel and bearing a team flag.
The octopus seemed to be in good shape when he was checked late Monday, but he did not make it through the night. He died of natural causes, Vieregge said.

Sepp Blatter re-elected FIFA president
An uncontested victory, as the other candidate withdrew his name amid bribery allegations.

He immediately took steps toward major reform by winning the assembly's backing for his proposal to have future World Cup hosts selected in a vote of all 208 federations instead of the 24-man executive committee -- a reform Blatter proposed hours before the vote. The congress also endorsed his plans to revamp the ethics committee and bring in more transparency.

And Sepp Blatter now covering his ass.
