WRAPUP 3-Soccer-World-Police clash with workers in first unrest - Yahoo! Canada News

Steve - can you shed some light on this for us? Why would event staff be furious enough to cause a scene?

I'd say this would do it:

Another of the stewards, Fanak Falakhebuengu, told the AP he had heard they would be paid 1,500 rand ($195) a day but they were only getting 190 rand ($25).
"They were supposed to give us 1,500, that's what FIFA told us, and they gave us 190. We are working from 12 o'clock until now," said another man who asked not to be named. He ran from police before he could give his name.
Many of the protesters were waving small brown envelopes that had held their pay. One handed to a reporter had the figure 190 written on it under "amount payable."
Others said they had been abandoned at the stadium after the match and would have to walk about four hours to get home. They said no transport was provided for them.

Thanks! Rep for the article.

Suprised at this. I remember watching an ESPN segment on the building of the stadiums and reading that construction workers were promised free tickets to matches for their work - up until a few weeks before the tournament started, many hadn't been paid the tickets. :(

Because we have a native on the boards - I'm trying to be more respectful of throwing bombs out there. If the "free ticket" story is another fabrication, I hope he can help clear it up.

Japan is doing a great job in defense. Eto'o is being triple-teamed every time he touches the ball. Cameroon haven't had an answer, but from 60' on they've at least developed a sense of urgency.

Whoever loses this game is in big trouble, because I don't think either of these sides can take a point from the Dutch. If Japan wins, it puts them in good position if they can at least draw with the Danes. If it is a draw, the second spot is still wide open. This would be a great win for the Japanese, who almost no one gave a chance to do anything.

US Soccer: Howard is OK to play against Slovenia ?| ajc.com

Great news for The Yanks! :) :highfive::pirate1::cheers::groove::groove2:

I figured he would tough it out...he's always been a warrior type. The Slovenians will be just enough of a pain in the ass that I imagine we'll need him 2-3 times to do what he does. If we can get 3, we're looking really good.

I woke up early on Sunday and watched the entire Slovenia/Algeria match.

Unless Slovenia parks the entire team in front of the net - we should be able to get (at least) two goals. Algeria were awful and they almost scored a couple of times.
