Official FIFA 2010 World Cup Discussion

I'd welcome it, but the Africans seem to love 'em.

I couldn't sit in a stadium with that constant noise for 2-3 hours. I'd be ready to bludgeon a few people to death with one by the end of the match.
Those horns kill the greatness of soccer crowds, tens of thousands unified in song, the rollercoaster of emotions and voices, etc.

They reduce the otherwise electric crowd to the usefulness of a cowbell at ski races (or various HS games with soccer moms)

This is largely a British phenomenon.
Everywhere else there is a different characteristic crowd behavior.
Fireworks in Italy, Boobs and Tushes in Brazil and so on.

I don't like them either, but just wished to characterize correctly how (relatively) limited the Kop Choir characteristic is within international soccer.

I'm surprised that Holdenwas kept on the bench so long against England. Fom what I've seen over the past year, he's one of our best players. I'd rather see him controlling the ball and setting up teammates as a starter, rather than coming in late as a sub. I think Holden is already better than Dempsey, just doesn't have the experience. Holden could certainly start for Clark and it'd instantly make their offensive sets more productive. Yesterday was ugly yet again in terms of T.O.P. We just don't have the ability to control the ball like the world powers do. Holden certainly makes us better in that regard.

I know I'll be in the minority, but I honestly don't mind the vuvuzelas.
If they were playing something (say a group of 3-5 different toned VVs working together) or responding to a big play, it would be different.

It seems like something Harry & Lloyd would dream up if they attended a soccer game... unending, soul-crushing annoyance.

 Crowds sing everywhere. It's getting worse in England because of the ticket prices.

Don't have a problem with them either. If it's part of African (South African) culture, whatever, deal with it (I guess).

If they were in Germany or something, then there would be a problem.

The French would complain about almost anything, regardless.

Deutschland has looked the best to me, so far.

4-0

The USA scored 3 against the Socceroos last weekend. Germany is good, but I'm thinking Australia isn't.
