Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

I do not see the Browns taking Quinn and having three inexperienced QB's on the roster. I expect them to throw up as many smokescreens as possible. Of the top players (Russell, Quinn, Peterson, Thomas and Johnson) I would take Johnson at 3. Otherwise I would trade down a few spots.

Another WR is not what this team needs...no matter how good he is.

We got a speed WR for a RB we were going to cut 48 hours from now. Plus, we signed a DT which you can't argue man, let's try every angle on that. If the Bengals match us, that's cool too, it just shows you he's good enough for them to want to keep him away from us. If not, well then we got him, and he wasn't drafted, so I believe we owe them nothing. You may be right about both of them not being on the 53, but I like that they will have a shot.

I liked the way Jim Brown put it during a phone conversation after Jamal Lewis ran Reuben Droughns out of Cleveland.

The Hall of Fame running back, now a team consultant, was weighing the pieces added - including guard Eric Steinbach - and the ones still in the mist.

"This is a major chess game going on right now," Brown said. "All these pieces have to be developed. Those two individuals will definitely add something positive."

Anybody think he knows what Phil Savage is up to next?

The Browns haven't proven to me that they know how to draft worth a damn anyways so I personally don't think it matters who they draft.

Savage did a fine job last year. A speed rusher had been a long time need (along with so many others.....) and he did a fine job. I was impressed with his coverage as well. D'Qwell Jackson fits and backup UM LB Leon Williams proved to be more than just a film stud.

Past mismanagement of this club is almost criminal.

Joe Thomas makes sense, but I don' think he will be there. Someone posted some Pro Bowl offensive tackle / draft position info before. I do wonder how many past 1st round picks have turned out to be ordinary or busts? Selective data can be misleading. I'm not saying that's the intention, it's only that there is another side to such accomplishments. We drafted for need in the past when we picked Gerard Warren. He is a good DT, but not a #3 pick. Picked just behind him was Tomlinson. Granted DT is always a reach in the first round, but I think one has to be careful when looking at offensive linemen as well.

I really think that the Browns are looking at Peterson. Lewis is in with only a one year contract and it make sense. With the college career and combine that Calvin Johnson had, I also think that an opportunity to move down and gain picks is there. If Quinn is there for us, I would not be surprised to see him in Orange and Brown. The kid is legit.

I would love for Troy to come to Cleveland, but I would be amazed if he comes off the board before the 3rd round. One way or another Charlie needs to sit. I love the grit and determination of Frye, but I honestly believe he cannot see beyond his second progression. I agree with previous sentiments that Troy is an improvement coming in the door, but realistically he is a 3rd rounder at best and probably 4th. If we would take Smith any higher, it would only be more mismanagement.

BEREA They should put a temporary tattoo on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's forehead before he steps to the podium on April 28.

"Warning: Research has determined that drafting in the top three may be hazardous to your health."

It's impossible to review the last 20 drafts without thinking time and again, what was that team smoking?

In theory, a top-3 pick should provide a hurting team big help. Often, it does. Just as often in the last 20 drafts, a top-3 pick has gone pfffft.

Browns GM Phil Savage doesn't need to cower. He just has to be careful not to pick one of the draft busts to have come from almost all of the last 20 top threes.

In reaching for a star, the Browns are weighing how a key expert rates heavyweight running back Michael Bush.

"The ceiling on him is way out there,'' said new Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Bobby Petrino, who coached Bush at the University of Louisville.

Bush's draft stock is relatively down there, to the point the Browns - needing a long-term answer after Jamal Lewis signed a one-year deal - may be able to get him in Round 2.

With six weeks to go before new Commissioner Roger Goodell announces the first players taken in the NFL draft, "the silly season" officially is under way.
Browns General Manager Phil Savage uses the phrase to refer to the rumors, misinformation and disinformation that are floated in the media to mask or possibly influence the intentions of teams at the top of the draft order.
With the No. 3 pick of the April 28 draft, the Browns are in the thick of national conjecture about how the beginning of Round One will unfold.The latest speculation on the national level has the Browns falling out of love with Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson and in love with the idea of selecting a quarterback, with LSU's JaMarcus Russell being their top choice and Notre Dame's Brady Quinn second.

So now that the Soldja is likely done for the season, I wonder if this affects any draft plans.

I personally like Thomas at three, value be damned. Taking a QB is putting the cart before the horse like they've done since the return.
