Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

I think the Browns are really trying to get someone to bite and trade up for the that number three pick and still get AP. Don't forget rookie backs(rookies in general) normally hit a wall sometime through the year so just because they signed Lewis does not mean that they won't take AP. Plus both have had some injuries so thats another thing not to mention if you want to be successful you need more than one back. Just look at the two teams in the Super Bowl both had two good backs. But then again if Thomas is there they might have to take a strong look at him. I just don't think he is that franchise left tackle, not to say he won't be decent just not the guy you can build the line around.

I officially quit if we draft Quinn.....so sick of poor drafts
I hear you.

If I'm Phil Savage and Lewis is signed I get Calvin Johnson, Troy Smith.. but there may be a reason thats not my job

Edit: My scarlet glasses say trade braylon for a 2nd round (if someone will pay that) and snag gonzo.

Edit 2: Lewis signed.

Browns sign Jamal Lewis to 1-year deal

Zac Jackson, Staff Writer
03.07.2007

How's this for a reversal of fortunes? Jamal Lewis is set to bounce off of would-be tacklers for the Browns instead of bouncing would-be tacklers who play for the Browns.

The Browns signed Lewis to a one-year deal Wednesday night, bringing the veteran power back to the team that he set the NFL single-game record of 295 yards rushing against in 2003.

The Ravens released Lewis in a salary-cap move just prior to the start of free agency.

His 314 carries for 1,132 yards last fall were the most since the record-setting 2003 season that gave him the NFL rushing title. That year, he rushed for 2,066 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Lewis, who turns 28 just prior to the start of the 2008 season, has seven NFL seasons under his belt. His emergence as a rookie in 2000 helped the Ravens win the Super Bowl, but he suffered a torn ACL in training camp the following summer and missed the season.

He's rushed for more than 1,000 yards in four of five seasons since, missing the mark only in 2005 when he had 906. For his career, he has 1,822 rushes for 7,801 yards and 45 touchdowns.

He has six career 100-yard games against the Browns, four of 170 yards or more.
"We are pleased to add Jamal Lewis to our team," Browns Senior Vice President and General Manager, Phil Savage said. "He is a proven NFL back who brings a toughness and demeanor to the game that his teammates and our fans will appreciate."

The addition of Lewis and Eric Steinbach in free agency dramatically changes the look of the Browns' offense and reflects at least a mild change in the look of the AFC North Division as a whole. Lewis is a 5-foot-11, 245-pound battering ram, and the Browns plan to put a rugged offensive line in front of him.

Savage was with the Ravens when they drafted Lewis in the first round in 2000. Lewis becomes the third high-profile former Raven to sign with the Browns under Savage's watch, joining Gary Baxter (2005) and Dave Zastudil (last season).

Never would have guessed.

why the quinn hate?

hes a local boy. hes a browns fan. notre dame haterade? you can question a lot of things, though i dont think you can question his desire to win. how many guys had their knees drained twice at halftime and didnt miss a snap? his injury was more serious than many know and thats the draft slide. though it should be nothing long term. savage and weiss have connections. if this is the best choice it will be known by those two. say what you want but those two worked together in ne and im sure will be brutually honest with each other.

though i really think the browns are 7 players from being a serious team. entertaining a draft day offer with a team in "love" may be the best option. who knows.

[end rant of non browns fan]

Romeo will not be around long enough to see the potential long-term payoff if they draft Quinn. He will struggle with the current OL.

so as a browns fan. you have options.

do you draft
thomas
peterson
(someone else please name)

or do you seriously consider trading down?
picking up maybe 2 to 3 players who can have an impact (maybe a smaller impact) thus enabling you to pick up 4 to 6 players who if are the right choices and all work out can compete for a starting/impact postion on the team?

or do you something else?
please explain.

when i say serious team i say .500 league average team. id say 10 or so teams are in this category. we can debate who the 7 players are. though, im pretty sure nearly everyone could agee on half of them. the way the scheduling works this should allow for a playoff cabable team the way i figure.

I don't think its a hatred of Quinn....its an understanding of his overrated stature....what has he done thats impressed anyone? People can say his line sucked, his bad games were flukes, his defense couldn't win him games, etc. Bottom line is his game tape doesn't lie. For every good throw he makes, he makes an awful out throw. For every terrible team he racks up stats against, he looks awful against a semi-athletic defense. Just b/c he's intelligent and gives a decent interview, doesn't make him a great pick. Again, if Cleveland takes him I quit b/c that makes about 8 awful first round moves since the expansion
