Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

Agreed. Let Oakland have him. Just wondering what does everyone think about drafting Drew Stanton if we don't take a QB in round 1 or 2. What is Stanton projected to go at anyway?
He is around the third or fourth best qb. He is around the 40s in overall rank.

Thanks for the info. Even though I thought he was just okay in college I would much rather have the Browns take him in say the 3rd round if available then draft a QB early.

Anyone else really hoping the Browns take Calvin Johnson?
Yes I would love it if they would take CJ or Thomas with the first pick unless they trade down and get some more picks then I could deal with a bunch of different guys. CJ in the 1st and OL in the 2nd....Stanton 3rd round if there and the rest defensive players. I would be pretty happy.

I doubt Stanton lasts until the third. I think we're better off just not drafting a quarterback this year and trying to get one in next years draft(Brohm for example). Build the line and get difference makers this year, see how Fry/Anderson does this year because they're both still very young, and if need be, go for a QB next year when hopefully we'll have something resembling an offensive line.

If we do draft a QB, I hope it's on the second day.

SI mock draft
Peter King said:
Women of Cleveland, rejoice. You've got your matinee idol. Men of Cleveland, have hope. Quinn was 2-8 against Michigan, USC and in bowl games at Notre Dame, but the Irish had less talent in most of those games.
What brilliant logic, considering the browns suffer a similar inequality of talent across the board.

Unfortunately that is an ignored fact on draft day.

Somehow, the mock draft "experts" haven't figured out that playing in Cleveland is just like playing in South Bend. Large rabid fan base. No results. If we draft Brady Quinn, it will be more of the same.

You must be joking right? To me the Browns would be getting a steal of a deal. Braylon was and is so overrated. He drops passes all the time, does not have game breaking speed and has a shitty attitude. He's like a mini TO without the talent. It's not like it's a revelation that he drops passes, look at the game against the Bucks where he dropped that critical pass. He dropped a shit load of passes last season for the Browns. They guy is not that good and should never have been taken #3 overall. MAKE THIS TRADE NOW if it is true.

i agree he's not that good but i'm not ready to give him away for basically nothing. if the Browns would trade up to get Russell, the starting WR's would by Jurevicius and T. Wilson. that's scary. couple that with Winslow's injury concerns and a shaky offensive line and your giving Russell very little chance to succeed.

On the topic of trading up...

I personally don't like it. I don't think Russel is good enough to warrant the move, and WR isn't dire enough a need to warrant going up and getting Johnson. I'd rather stay where we are now and get Peterson, Thomas, or Johnson if he drops, or trade down to a team trying to get Johnson if he drops(Tampa most likely).

I'm very against trading up, especially if it means picking BQ at #1. That would be truly insane.

If the Browns stay at #3, I think they have to take CJ if he is on the board and immediately move to make a deal. I'm all about trading down and getting more picks.

I'll say it right now...if the Browns trade UP, I am washing my hands of them until a new front office is in place. I'm no Braylon fan, but moving him with the #3 pick is ludicrous. If that trade was to happen, I'd assume it would be to grab Russell since it's been made quite clear that Phil likes him. Crucify me if you want, but I'd rather draft Quinn than Russell. So he can throw far, big f'n deal. He has been fairly erratic in college and I think is in this position because he diced up ND's "defense". If they were to draft Russell, who the fuck is he going to throw the ball to? If they are considering moving in this draft, it had better be down, because I will not support this team anymore if they trade up for an effing QB. End of rant.

I'm not going to crucify you I wouldn't do that to a fellow buckeye/brownie. Infact I agree with almost everything you say. The only thing we disagree about is unloading Braylon "It's a touchdown...scratch that he dropped it" Edwards. I'm not a huge fan of Russell and I have made it clear that I don't want them to draft Quinn. I think the reason that people are in love with Russell and it's the physical tools that he brings as well as potential. I have never understood the thing about drafting because of potential especially with a top 5 pick. Hell I don't even believe that Russell is as accurate throwing the ball as Quinn and I think that is more important. No sir I just want the browns to draft CJ or Thomas.

If you want to crucify me for this go ahead but just thought it was kind of scary. As many of you know I have been totally against drafting Brady Quinn and don't get me wrong I still am I want CJ but last night I had a dream. Before you ask no I was not drinking within the last week of having the dream so it is not drugs or alcohol. I dreamed about the Browns making a big run in the playoffs and scoring between like 24 and 28 per game. Anyways just before I wake up the browns need a TD to win and so they pass score the winning TD and advance further in the playoffs. I strain to see the name on the back of the QB's jersey and it says "Quinn". I woke up and almost felt ok if the Browns picked Quinn especially if they traded down got extra picks and still drafted him. Again I want CJ and have been against drafting Quinn all along but this dream has been making me think all day....pretty damn weird fellas. Please be kind and don't grill me too hard I am still a loyal brownie. GO BROWNIES!

I was going over the debate of Quinn versus Russel on another board I frequent. In my mind, Russel is a slower, less mobile, less accurate, and less football savy Daunte Culdpepper. He's slow, he's not elusive, and his accuracy is overrated. If this were last year, he'd be going in the second round(or he would at least be going in the late first at the earliest).

I just don't see it. I think the media is overhyping. He can make some amazing throws, but that doesn't mean he'll make good quarterback. I still maintain that IF we go QB, we should take Quinn. He's the better of the two IMO.

Still hoping we don't have to have this discussion come 12:45 tomorrow(draft starts at noon right?)...

OK- here's a draft that we'd all love, if it were to occur. Positions are named, with appropriate names if I could figure out who to pick. It might be a bit Ohio State heavy... but then again, those are the players I know best.

#3 - OT/RB - Joe Thomas/Adrian Peterson
#36 - OT/RB - Joe Staley(if there)/ Antonio Pittman
#67 - DE/DT - Quinn Pitcock? Lamarr Woodley if he takes a tumble?
#103 - QB/OL - Troy Smith, just to make fans happy
#140 - CB
#178 - WR, someone with size, since Cribbs has plateaued
#213 - K - gotta replace Phil Dawson with someone at some point, take a flyer on someone

I don't want them to take Quinn, I don't want Russell, and I don't want CJ. As much of a pain in the ass that Braylon is, we wouldn't get good enough value from trading him (and we'd still have that ass KW II). We definitely need help at CB, since Baxter can't keep healthy to save his skin. Getting a rock-solid OT would definitely help, and, truth be told, if we drafted 4 linemen (both DL and OL) I'd be happy.

Main Needs: OL, RB. Our first two rounds should be spent with those two picks. Taking a flyer on Troy would improve fan sentiment, and he's been downgraded so much that he'd be a bargain in Round 4.
