Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

Joe Thomas may be safe pick

Savage not one to reach, though national media point to Quinn

By Patrick McManamon

Will the Browns finally wind up with the left tackle they've lacked once the NFL Draft is finished today?
That possibility seems to have increased as the draft approaches. Emphasize the word ``possibility,'' though, because Browns General Manager Phil Savage has not revealed a clue as to his intentions, and the Browns have done a good job keeping things in-house.
The Browns could take the tackle... or a standout receiver... or a quarterback... or trade down.

Look for Quinn
Saturday, April 28, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk

BEREA Brady Quinn has spent the spring in front of more cameras than Donald Trump.

Thursday's gig was a live bit on "Fox and Friends."

Standing on a Manhattan sidewalk, Quinn was dared on live TV to throw a football to people standing at a window in a tall building. King Kong couldn't have heaved it that far.

Then he was dared to throw a deep pass to a guy in the cargo bed of a truck. The Notre Dame quarterback grinned and fired a strike that left the Fox folks frothing.

Quinn wants to be the man
Saturday, April 28, 2007
By BARRY WILNER
AP Football Writer

NEW YORK (AP) ? Brady Quinn believes the quarterback out of Notre Dame has everything the NFL seeks in a draft prospect. Experience. Leadership. Talent. Confidence.

That Quinn happens to be that guy might make him seem boastful, even arrogant. That perception would be unfair, dead wrong.

Quinn is accurate in his assessment of, well, Quinn.

He spent nearly four full years leading the most storied college football program in America. Quinn dealt with the glaring spotlight and pressure well enough to lead the Fighting Irish to two BCS bowl games ? even with little help from a porous defense.

Trade for Johnson one possibility
Saturday, April 28, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
Repository sports writer

BEREA "Let's Make a Deal" debuted on NBC in 1963. A spinoff - call it "General Managers Gone Wild" - might air today on ESPN.

Trade talks among teams at the top of the NFL Draft - including the Browns - have been going on for weeks. They escalated Friday and will be at gusher levels today.

Having the No. 3 overall pick in 2007, General Manager Phil Savage said, bears little resemblance to owning it in 2005.

CLEVELAND BROWNSRussell
Browns covet Russell, but he's at arm's length

Saturday, April 28, 2007 Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
Phil Savage has waited eight years. That's how long ago the Browns' general manager watched JaMarcus Russell throw the football - no, rocket-launch the football - as a 14-year-old at Savage's annual free camp in Mobile, Ala.
"We half-jokingly talked at the time, when I was with the Ravens, that by the time he's ready to come out I'll probably be a GM and maybe JaMarcus will be at the top of the draft board," Savage said earlier this month.
That day has arrived.
