Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

Browns buzz now centers on Sooner

Plain Dealer Reporter
Indianapolis- The buzz at the NFL combine is that the Browns are leaning toward taking Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson with the third pick in the draft.
"I'm picking that up," Peterson said with a grin on Friday.
How does the top-rated running back in the draft feel about that?

"Cleveland is a great town," he said. "They've got some Sooners down there already. I wouldn't mind being a Cleveland Brown."

Crennel would take a QB, but only Mr. Right

INDIANAPOLIS Romeo Crennel embraces the idea of drafting a quarterback. But only Mr. Right.

"If there is a franchise quarterback," the Browns head coach said Friday at the NFL Combine, "I think that we have to talk about it. We have to determine what can help our team the quickest."

I can't even think for a minute that a franchise QB would be Brady Quinn. I'm not even sure Russell fits the bill. More so than Quinn, but not sure on either.

I wonder if Phil would be more tempted to take Quinn at #3 if he wasn't pretty sure Troy will still be available in the second round.

Think about it. If the Browns first two picks are Thomas/Peterson and Smith, well, that's a draft to get the fans excited.

theres been to many "we're only taking a qb if hes the right guy" articles. I have a real hard time seeing us taking a QB, and Phil himself has said that he thinks any of last years first round QBs would have had a real hard team on this last seasons Browns.

After watching every minute of the combine today (that was televised), one of the QB's really impressed me. If we end up with an extra pick in the second round, I think I would snag Drew Stanton. Big, fit guy who really impressed today and seems like a real leader that the guys would follow. If he happened to be there in the 3rd round, it would be a no brainer.

I think Stanton will be the 3rd QB off the board, so I doubt he's there in the 3rd. If we end up with another 2nd round pick I like it, but I'd prefer to see OL/DL in the 2nd -- especially if they get Peterson.
He's got the size they all like, a very good arm, and solid across the board. I'm not sure about the leadership (ND game), but I've always liked Stanton.

Did anyone else that watched the Combine remember them mentioning a report Savage made about top QBs selected over the past couple of years?
I think it was something like 60 high-drafted QBs and only 20 of them ended up being worth their paycheck?

The Brownies better take a tackle or guard (depending on FA) in the 2nd if they take Peterson in the first. No if ands or buts about it.

If by God's good graces Troy is available in the 3rd...then that is a beautiful draft. Starting to get excited at the prospect of watching AP run in Cleveland. He is a horse.

So you would take him over Troy if he were there??

Yes I would.

Why? As much as I like Troy, he would be just another QB behind that offensive line. As much as I like Troy, he isn't going to do anything to improve this team's defense.

He's a nice player to have, but he might not be *THE* player to get with that pick.

And that applies to Stanton too (don't jump into the middle of a conversation Mike ya knucklehead)***

Taking off the homer glasses, it's possible.

I have just never been overly impressed with Stanton, although I am unable to watch the Combine because Warner Cable sucks balls. I just think that Troy offers so much. Between skill and leadership and the fact that he is a home grown kid, he could save this team.
