Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

Smith wants Browns to draft him

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Usually the one avoiding pressure, Troy Smith is putting the heat on the Cleveland Browns.

Ohio State's Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback is lobbying his hometown team to select him in April's NFL draft, and he isn't missing any chance to remind the Browns that he'll be available to them soon.

Smith isn't the only Clevelander dreaming of playing for the Browns.

Wide receiver/returner Ted Ginn Jr., Smith's teammate at Glenville and Ohio State, is skipping his senior college season for the NFL. He, too, said he would like to trade a silver helmet for an orange one.

"It's always been a dream to play for the Browns," he said. "Why would I want to go anywhere else but Cleveland?"

I'll take Peterson over him Quinn.

My point was that Phil doesn't want to draft anymore young QBs.

phil won't draft a young QB with his first pick. That's my point.

That's not to say he won't take Troy if he's there in the 3rd round. Troy is better than Brady Quinn is anyway.

Troy would be worth 3rd round pick if for nothing else than to keep the wolves at bay and sell a LOT of jerseys and tickets.
Anyway, I think they'd be fools to not take a serious look at him post-1st round. Not saying we should definitely take him if he's there, but they better make sure the guy they do get is spot-on.

That all depends on what they want to do in FA and what they want to do in the 1st round.

There are greater needs than QB as we've both said. If they can solidify the line, maybe taking someone who might be the QB of the future would be warranted post-1st round, but I think you'd want to hit the lines early on....

Drafting Troy would be a great PR move, but there are much bigger problems that need to be addressed first. If we could fill some of those holes in FA, I'd be all for taking him if he's there in round 3. Hell, I'd be one of the first to buy a Smith jersey.
