Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

Of course Phil said it's a great year to be in the top-5 ... that's where he is. By this time, he surely knows how to play the media game. I'm not buying it though. This isn't a draft year that shows a ton of talent at the top IMO. It's pretty even.
As for Brown/Thomas, from what I saw in bowl games and last week -- I think they're on par with eachother. If so, it makes more sense to trade down (if we can), grab Levi and an extra day 1 pick.
it's a helluva year to be at the top when you have the braylon card to deal with a cj in the draft, theres the trade down scenario to snag levi, troy smith, etc

uhh I have disagree with you there. This draft is VERY top heavy. after cj, AD, thomas, quinn, russell, and branch, the falloff is pretty big. its loaded at the top. theres a huge difference in talent between a guy like peterson or cj (top of the draft) to the middle, with someone like leon hall.

who exactly is going to trade up too?

troy really hasnt helped himself lately:( missing open reads and poor throws in the senior bowl + the national championship game. his stocks fallen considerably

however, does this team really need ANOTHER young QB? I don't think so, and from what I've read, neither does Phil. I can't see us taking you-know-who for that reason as well.

with the drop off in talent you just outlined, why not grab troy 2nd or 3rd round if he;s there?

AP has major injury concerns.
Thomas also has injury concerns, especially after missing the Sr Bowl, and nobody has been terribly impressed with him down the stretch.
Quinn has been discussed ad nauseum.
Russell has been pretty inconsistent in his college career, even this year with his great QB rating. He's where he is largely because of measurables and a lackluster year for QBs in a year where there is a lot of need for them.
CJ is the real deal, but this draft is also loaded with WRs.
Branch is legit top-10 material, but he's not a huge step up from other DL that will go later. (read: Carricker, Okoye)

And you succeeded in picking a prospect (Hall) you know everyone here agrees is among the most-overated to make your point about the rest of the draft. There are plenty of quality guys available throughout the first round, even some in the secondary.

As for trading, if you really believe this draft is so top-heavy, I'm sure somebody will be willing to sacrifice a 2nd or 3rd round pick to avoid getting stuck with Leon Hall.

AD-ankle injurie sophomore year due to overuse as a freshman, healed VERY fast, freak collarbone this year

thomas - knee, played full year healthy afterwords

quinn - dreamy

jamarcus - TOOLS

i dont get why everyone loves brown after 3 days of good but not great practice. he didnt do to well against stunts and allowed jay moore to get by him.

you also didnt tell me a scenario in which a team trades its 2nd and 3rd round picks to trade up.

My point stands. None of those guys has it all. You can downplay all of it as much as you want (specifically injuries).
The reason Levi has climbed so much has a lot to do with the fact that Thomas hasn't done any climbing at all.
Note that I never said we should trade down, like it's as simple as making the choice of whether to do so or not. It's a best-case scenario in my head. Obviously it takes two to tango. As for a real scenario -- they have already been laid out in this thread (all revolving around CJ, perhaps the only guy worth trading up for).

peterson is a stud. he is a cant miss player. his combination of size and speed is perfect. I think he could be a special player.

If he can stay healthy for a whole season... 3 years as the starter in college, and he could only do that once. I don't think anyone will trade up for Peterson.

because we have a depth chart full of young quarterbacks. from what ive been reading, phil doesnt want anymore.
but, as your so quick to point out, phil is a BPA guy in a 'top heavy' draft. dorsey is going nowhere, why not cut him. is troy better than anderson? maybe. is he better than frye? maybe. so once again, why not take him. cut dorsey. and see how he develops

how is that any different? you still have a roster full of shitty, unproven quarterbacks!
