Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

Alan (scUM) Branch with ther first pick

I've been living in denial about that one. We do need a NT, and he looks like a stud designed for the 3-4. And I've long thought he's the real cause behind over-rated Woodley's success. If we draft him, he better not pull a Braylon... :mad1:

Do you guys remember the last time we took a junior DT over a stud HB? Remember how well that worked out?

That is some funny shit BM. King I don't understand this day after day crusade that you are on with Brady Quinn. Are you his agent or is the man-crush thing true?? Personally, I don't like the guy, OK, partly because I hate Notre Lame and Fat Chuck, but also because IMO, he is overrated. He never beat a good team, and you can't tell me it was only because he was not surrounded by great players. The Browns need to either pick Peterson or Alan (scUM) Branch with ther first pick, IMO. I am still on the fence with Thomas. Not sure he is worth that high of a pick. Although, as I have said before, you don't see many stud OL guys coming to teams through FA. They are usually drafted. Teams just don't let those guys go.

He beat Michigan in '05.

His WRs constantly dropped passes in big games (see '06 USC for example).

Peterson is my top choice. I don't know why you guys think I'm in love with BQ.

Like it or not, NT needs to be addressed in the very near future. FA or draft, I could care less. But Branch is a legit consideration -- and I'd prefer to avoid him nonetheless.

He may be, but I don't think I could stand another scumer in the first round.

I'm with you... if they took Branch, I think I'd prolly stop watching the draft right there (will probably happen anyway, being that the Seahawks dont have a pick and the 1st round takes a year) and not pay attention to the Browns for awhile. If we draft another scUM guy -- he BETTER produce, not cause any problems in the locker room, and lock Braylon on or Im done for awhile.

I'm hoping they package Braylon along with another early to mid round draft pick for another 1st Round pick and a shot at Ginn. I know it's not likely, but I can dream.

I'd do a jig if we got a chance at Teddy!
Imagine if we picked up AP and Teddy, and get Steinbach and Clements in FA... the complete outlook of the team would change, on and off the field.

But you're right, I doubt it'd happen

Oh, I don't know...

king rhabuf;716041; said:
Because Frye and Anderson are so talented right?

If BQ is there, we take him. He fills a major need for the team. Remember, Phil is a BPA guy.

king rhabuf;716129; said:
because he plays for notre dame? gimme a break.

king rhabuf;716139; said:

He wouldn't play right off the bat. He took a lot of hits this past season with ND, and he had a great year.

The QB position needs addressing, Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson are not quarterbacks that are going to lead this team anywhere. And no, taking a QB in the 6th round isn't going to cut it.

Its only a matter of time before we have to spend a high pick on a QB. The team isn't going anywhere, now seems like a good time.

king rhabuf;716144; said:
Carson Palmer was a mediocre quarterback for his first three years at USC, and really wasn't dominant until the last half of his senior season. You got any problem with him now?

Scouts like Quinn because of his frame, arm, and intelligence. He has everything he needs to be a franchise QB in the league. Yes, the line needs work, but an OT like Staley/Sears/Free in the 2nd round.
- BQ, if available, take him
- If no BQ, AD
- If no AD or BQ, either take Branch, or trade down.

king rhabuf;716158; said:

Frye plays until BQ is ready. Whats so hard to understand?

Phil is a BPA guy....if BQ is there at #3, then he will be interested in him.

Quinn has mobility (see 70 yard run against USC) and you're overrating Troy's mobility - he sure couldn't dodge those Gators on Monday!

What good is having a good running game and line when your QB sucks? Look what the Broncos had to do this year. We can take a HB like McFadden in next years draft.

We can't ignore the QB position.

king rhabuf;716247; said:
Bengals with Carson Palmer ring a bell?

Quinn is a better runner than Frye. Obviously hes not a scrambler, but he can by himself time in the pocket if he has too.

Not addressing my point. Quinn will be able to buy himself time in the NFL. Have you seen Frye scramble?

Pass to Samardzija in UCLA game? Coming back against Mich St this year?

Can you tell me memories of Alex Smith or Carson Palmer that blew you away?

Its not like Joe Thomas is the next Walter Jones. Remember the last heralded LT from the big 10?

I think Quinn will be great in the NFL. Remember, hes from OH and WANTS to play for the Browns

king rhabuf;717644; said:
His names Brady Quinn.
AD would be great if BQ is taken.

king rhabuf;717890; said:

Palmer only threw for one more TD than INT his junior year. He really didn't start being dominant until the last half of his senior year. That was one of the knocks on him on draft day.

Can you tell me a memorable game that Jay Cutler won?

The point is, Quinn has the frame, arm, and intelligence that are hallmarks of a franchise QB just like Palmer does.

king rhabuf;718353; said:
You obviously dislike Quinn. I'd like to see Peterson here just as much, but if both BQ and AD are there, then I say we take BQ. Phil will probably take BQ as hes a BPA guy.

king rhabuf;719549; said:
Again, this is all I'm saying. I'd love to see Peterson on the team. However, should he not be available, and BQ is, be prepared for Phil to take him. IMO, its not the end of the world. There are solid OT's to be had in the second round like Joe Staley, Aaron Sears, and Doug Free.
I'll say this again, I don't hate Quinn (not really), and I am not against drafting him because he's a Domer. I'm just not convinced from what I saw out of him in four years at NoD (particularly the last two) that he will be that good of an NFL QB, particularly in Cleveland. Yes he put up big numbers, but looked mediocre at best against any decent competition. He was awful against scUM and LSU. On top of that, we just have more glaring needs that are available this year. Particularly the lines. I think if AD is there, we take him. Not my first choice, but he's a special talent. His injury history worries me though. I think Thomas will be a good NFL tackle. Quite frankly, I'd rather have Branch than Quinn. He has the look of a monster NT in the 3-4. Some may disagree, but I think judging Charlie just on last season is unfair. He's a young QB that was playing behind one of the worst OLs I've ever seen.

Wow, seeing all that together with the Browns in the same paragraph got me excited, but I know that is the closest I will get to actually seeing that happen. If they just put together a smart draft, I will be happy. Trading anyone on that team would not bother me either. Except for maybe Wimbley, he looks like the real deal.

Branch has tremendous talent but is not overly consistent. I think Peterson or Thomas would be a far safer pick.
He beat Michigan in '05.
Along with Stocco, Cupito, Smith & Taylor. They narrowly achieved a winning season that year.
His WRs constantly dropped passes in big games (see '06 USC for example).
His WRs' hands had nothing to do with 2 of the 3 TDs he scored via winged helmets. Other than the first play drop by the nose, I don't remember drops being an issue against OSU.
