Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

This is the NFL. Contracts don't mean squat. When we signed him for six years, nobody thought he'd actually be there the entire duration. Drafting a LT first doesn't mean both would be on the Browns for the next few years. Shafer would most likely start to begin the season before giving way to the rookie. He'd then be cut next offseason.

theres a little thing called a cap hit that would take place if that happened champ:yow2:

Again, this is all I'm saying. I'd love to see Peterson on the team. However, should he not be available, and BQ is, be prepared for Phil to take him. IMO, its not the end of the world. There are solid OT's to be had in the second round like Joe Staley, Aaron Sears, and Doug Free.

If you're worried about injuries why do you want Thomas?

Look up the reason he didn't declare after last year.

Thomas had 1 injury. AP/AD/whatever has had a couple, is just coming off of one (though if they fixed his Clavicle like I expect it should never be an issue again -- at least not on that side), and since his breakout year hasn't made it through an entire season.
A knee injury (Thomas for those who don't know) is a lot more serious than breaking a Clavicle -- but I still see more red flags when I look at Adrian.
At this point, though, I think we could draft a kid whose never been sick or broken a bone his entire life and I'd half-expect him to tear his mcl, meniscus, acl and then develop a staph infection.
I suspect some of these guys might be malingering (military lingo for faking it, and just bringing in the paycheck).

If you read the Cleveland Browns Tidbits there, you'll notice that Quinn isn't even being mentioned by Phil Savage.

Methinks YOU are going to be awfully disappointed that the Browns 1st pick won't be a leg-shaving freak....

The Browns have plenty of cap room and the hit wouldn't be that bad with signing bonus and how they spread stuff like that out throughout a contract.........

It happens all the time.

Why would Savage tell everyone who he was targeting in the draft? That doesnt make any sense at all...

Yes I know we need OL, but Thomas is not worthy of the 3rd pick. If you've seen him play for 2+ years and watched the Capitol One Bowl you would know this.

peterson is the man.

I'd want Peterson too, but I don't think he'll be there.

If you read between the lines a bit from this article, it appears they REALLY want Peterson and will go after OL in the FA market.......

The Browns aim to get better by:
? Using a healthy salary-cap situation toward signing free agents of Steinbach?s caliber. Buffalo cornerback Nate Clements is another target. ? Looking at the bright side of LSU quarterback JeMarcus Russell and Wisconsin left tackle Joe Thomas being gone before they pick at Nos. 3 or 4. QBs and tackles need more grooming than running backs. Indications are the Browns are all about fleshing out reasons to pick Oklahoma?s Adrian Peterson. Reason No. 1: He can help the team win now, which would impact regime survival.

The main point is and should be that they won't be drafting Brady Quinn.

AD hurt his ankle his sophomore year from overuse, and he healed very quickly. His broken collarbone this year was a freak thing. I'd say his health concerns are less than JT's.

And yes, I'd rather have Peterson than BQ, however, should things not work out, I'm not gonna moan about it like you all will and call him fruity names.

That's because you have a man-crush on him though.....

I'll be pissed because he won't do anything to reverse the collective fortunes of the Browns organization....

Tim Couch redux....

Yes, we'll all be moaning... :roll2:
As if you wouldn't run into the streets crying if they happened to draft Thomas... over Brady Quinn.

I agree that a serious knee injury like Thomas' is a bigger health risk overall than an addling ankle injury and a clavicle fracture (that was likely reinforced and wouldn't break again if he got hit by a semi).
However, a RB who only made it through a single season in his college career does not leave me with much confidence that he'll survive a season in the NFL. Still, he is a beast and he'd at least have a change-of-pace with Droughns, and (hopefully) Harrison. So I doubt he'd be running 30 times a game.
All that to say that I'm on the fence with Peterson, and I don't think his injury issues can be passed off so lightly.

That is some funny shit BM. King I don't understand this day after day crusade that you are on with Brady Quinn. Are you his agent or is the man-crush thing true?? Personally, I don't like the guy, OK, partly because I hate Notre Lame and Fat Chuck, but also because IMO, he is overrated. He never beat a good team, and you can't tell me it was only because he was not surrounded by great players. The Browns need to either pick Peterson or Alan (scUM) Branch with ther first pick, IMO. I am still on the fence with Thomas. Not sure he is worth that high of a pick. Although, as I have said before, you don't see many stud OL guys coming to teams through FA. They are usually drafted. Teams just don't let those guys go.
