Official Bengals Draft Thread

Okinawa Buck:

Irons is a great pick. Chris Perry is often injured and there has not been a capable back up for Rudy two of the three years while Leon (My nickname for Chris Perry because of his incredible resemblence to Leon from the Budweiser ads) has been sitting on the IR. Irons should add the demension to the offense that Perry was supposed to bring (and did in the three games he played in). Looking at what was left on the board for defense and knowing that a safety will be available in round 4, I just don't have a problem with the pick.

My reasoning was that Watson's return would cover for the loss of Perry. I get your point, and the article I posted says the same, but I thought Watson was a good 3rd down back 2 years ago before he got hurt and would be again. It is not just S we need, but I thought any LB, TE, DT or S at that spot would be able to step in in a reserve/special teams role and help us in the sort and long term.

Is anyone else wishing we could trade up into the late 3rd and get Tank Tyler? Look at the early projections and there were experts who had him as our first round pick. He could help plug some runs in the middle.

Looks like someone in KC had the same idea as they moved up to take him.

Looks like you had the right part of the round in mind - gone to the chiefs, DeMarcus "Tank" Tyler.

You'd take him as long as he left the pictures of bitch tits back in NC.

Bengals take eyes off ball
After 1st pick, club strays from biggest need - 'D'
ANALYSIS BY MARK CURNUTTE | [email protected]

The Bengals can talk "best player available" all they want, and Auburn running back Kenny Irons might turn out to be a good pro player, but Marvin Lewis and Mike Brown had no business drafting offense on Day 1.
Two numbers stand out.
The Bengals were 30th in the NFL in yards allowed last season out of 32 teams. And they were tied for last in pass yards given up.

Continued.......

Nope, Marvin White, S, Texas Christian.

Free info from ESPN.

Overall: White originally attended Kilgore (Texas) Junior College where he played the 2003 and 2004 seasons, earning All-American recognition. He then started nine of 13 games in 2005 after transferring to TCU, recording 67 total tackles including two for loss, five pass breakups, and three interceptions to earn second team All-Mountain West honors. White became a first team All-Mountain West (media) performer in 2006 after starting all 13 contests and posting 86 total tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, four interceptions, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
White is raw and his technique -- especially in coverage -- needs lots of polishing before he can push for playing time in the NFL. Furthermore, there are serious concerns about his mental capacity and ability to line up a defense. On the flipside, White is a tough, aggressive player with explosive power for his size. He also has the speed, ...

We screwed up bad again...honestly, our defense doesn't deserve to get better when we pick Leon Hall. I just started laughing when we picked Leon Hall over Reggie Nelson. This is the dumbest 1st round pick we've had since Akili Smith. I would have rather had Alan Branch over him. We need some help at DT to stuff the run...we're going to see a lot more pounding with the RB's than an aerial attack anyways. We already have Jonathan Joeseph, Deltha O'Neal, and Keiwan Ratliff...I don't think corner was a must. I do think a safety or a DT would have been a much better pick. Then Kenny Irons next is just ridiculous...I realize RB may be a need here in the not so distant future but you can't just take the "talent" over a position of need like DT. It has hurts us for a couple years and it will here in the future as well.
