Official Bengals Draft Thread

TE low priority for Bengals
But team does have need at that position
BY MARK CURNUTTE | [email protected]

Just because football is the ultimate team game and the success of an offense is intertwined with how a defense fares, the Bengals might take a tight end early Saturday in the NFL Draft.
Still, the chance they'll use either their No. 18 or No. 49 overall pick for offense is slim.
As coach Marvin Lewis said Tuesday when asked whether the team would draft a tight end: "It's a possibility, but I don't want to say it's a priority."

I just don't see the Bengals making a grab for Olsen at 18. I do think they will draft one somewhere in this draft for depth purposes, but they've had plenty of chances over the last few years to make high picks on tight ends and passed, so I don't see how this year would be any different.

Of course, that means they are definitely taking him now.

Would love to see the Bengals draft Ginn Jr. Him and C.J. on the wide side of the field would be no fun to defend. It would be a perfect fit for Ginn where he could have time to come in and not be expected to be the guy at the receiver and lining up with T.J. and C.J. Teddy would get many oppertunities as coverages are rolled towards Chad. But the Bengal have more need on the other side of the ball and unless Carriker, Okoye or Willis drop here I expect them to take Nelson, Hall, or Revis. Maybe Branch if he slips as well. Personally besides the first 3 I mentioned I would take Ginn with this pick and get ready for more games reminisent of the Chargers game this past year.

Who dey gonna take? Think 'D'
But OSU's Ginn a possibility, too
BY MARK CURNUTTE | [email protected]

The Bengals are planning to add a defensive player between 3 and 4 o'clock this afternoon who, if he doesn't start, can contribute as a rookie.
After much discussion and deliberation, the Bengals will have their first-round pick - the 18th overall - in the NFL Draft. Barring a trade, they will have just one other pick today, the 49th overall in the middle of the second round.
Depending on who is left on the board, the Bengals will pick one of seven defensive players or just one offensive star from a narrowed universe of first-round prospects.

I just threw up in my mouth... I haven't seen any play of Leon Hall to warrant his first round status. So what they've been saying is that he struggled in his last few games versus Ginn and Jarrett. Could it be b/c those two are the only NFL caliber receivers he faced the whole year? If he isn't a bust, I will wholeheartedly be surprised. I can't watch any more of this crap.

Our safety play was terrible last year and part of it is the scheme we run on defense. Hall is no Champ Bailey, but he will be a soild player for you guys maybe even a pro bowler.

P.S. what other player has the speed Ginn has and Morgan Trent was the one getting burnt by Jarrett not Hall.

Given that Ginn was the #9 overall pick, getting burned by him wasn't the end of the world. I assume the Bengals watched enough tape of Hall to justify taking him over Chris Houston. Not a sexy pick, but a needed one. I think us Buckeye/Bengal fans are letting our despisal of anything blue color our thinking-not that there's anything wrong with that. Reggie Nelson might have been a great pick, but unless he or Madieu Williams can play CB, the hole is too big to ignore.

Name one game where he took a big play receiver out of the equation...

Sorry to not have been here all day with analysis. I've been working with no computer in sight all day. Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

Mine? I second the guy who threw up in his mouth. I felt it coming too. I was watching the way the board was going and had a sick feeling it was coming. I was hoping they would have been the team to make the deal with Denver, but the Jags jumped them there.

As for despising anything blue. That is not the issue. I'd have been ok with Branch there. I just think Hall is not the answer. I'd have been happy with Nelson there also and who do you think I hate almost as much as TSUN? This is based on talent alone. And I don't think Hall has it. In Marvin I trust, but this just feels wrong.

As for the second round. . . Kenny Irons????!!!!!????? Really? This seems like a reach for a guy we really don't have a need for. Anyone else feel that? We don't need a second round RB behing Rudy, we need a 6th round RB behind Rudy. There seem to be too many needs we could fill in this spot.
