Official 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs Discussion Thread

I'm not going to start this argument. We're obviously going to never agree on this.

I see Avery as a scar on the game. He brings more negative publicity to the sport than I care to see. He plays hard, does a good job, but does some things that I don't agree with. Malkin has had his share of cheap shots, but is far from a dirty player IMO.

No, I don't.

Like I said, Malkin had some cheap shots in the NYR series. But that doesn't make him a dirty player. If it continues in every series, every game, then I might be saying something a little different here.

..but there is no way he is even on the same level as Avery..

I don't recall Ruutu doing things that cause rules to be changed in the middle of playoffs. The media made fun of that. That wouldn't matter, except that the NHL could use some fans.

You hate Ruutu, I hate Avery. We're both guilty of the same thing here. Most fans like their favorite team's players who do the dirty work, and hate the opposing team's players who do the dirty work. It's not uncommon at all, I hope you're not trying to say that what I'm saying is outrageous.

EDIT: Actually, I didn't even say that I had no problems with Ruutu's game.

what you're saying is retarded. i never said i hated ruutu. i'd never even heard of him until the rangers played him.....that's because he sucks.

you on the other hand said you see avery as a scar on the game. interesting, when the only thing he does that ruutu doesn't is score points.

I can agree with this, half the NHL fans hate Chris Pronger, but he's my favorite player. He does the dirty work, he's a great captain, but you ask outside of Ducks fans and "he's one of the dirtiest players in the NHL"

No one likes an opposing teams hit man.

Why is it retarded? Seriously, I think I'm being pretty reasonable here..

So what's your opinion on Ruutu? You obviously don't like him - you've said he sucks, and called him a thug. When I was trashing Avery you brought Ruutu's name into the equation, when you could've said the same thing about Laraque. I don't think there's a problem with me assuming that you hated him.

Avery has had a negative imagine for a long time. He's done a lot more than score points.. that image didn't just randomly create itself all of a sudden.

I don't even remember what ruutu looks like. I've never even heard of laraque. are you telling me that ruutu and avery aren't both out there to piss people off? what exactly is so horrible that avery does that some shit lick on your team doesn't do? how does avery get the "scar on the game" tag, but your bruisers don't?

Avery puts himself out there for people. He's an intern at Vogue magazine. And he's a player who has done some dirty things in his career. That's a bad combination for hockey. The fact that you hadn't heard of Ruutu and you haven't heard of Laraque speaks volumes about the point I'm trying to make.

They do go out there to do essentially the same thing. I'm not debating that.. Avery and Ruutu have both made dirty hits. I'm not debating that, either. It's the stupid, worthless shit like waving your hands/stick in front of a goalies face, rather than actually playing the game, and starting fights then covering his hands over his head or skating away (seach Sean Avery on YouTube and you'll see that). Those make Avery the hated player that he is, rather than just another agitator. Like I said, Ruutu hasn't caused the NHL to change rules on the fly, and he hasn't caused the playoffs to make the front story on MSNBC.com for the wrong reasons.

This is why I didn't want to argue, we're never going to agree. We each have our opinions and I'm willing to leave it at that.

because I've said so many times how I don't like your team's enforcer.

you're biased because you think sean avery's game is any different from anybody else who is just out there to disrupt the goalie and piss off real players by talking shit and hitting them every chance they get.

Are you even reading my posts? Bolded are things that I've already said that address what you just said.
