Official 2006 NCAA Tournament Discussion Thread

People on the UCONN bandwagon. They are a very goo team but a very beatable team.

They have had tough games against Gonzaga early in the season when Gonzaga was coming off the double ot loss to MSU.

Lost at Marquette, followed up with a game agaisnt LSU they barely squeaked out, I remember they were down most of the game too.

Once again I will state they are a very good team, and have a team that should probably be the favorite, but they are beatable, even by us. Anything can happen, and I think there is a ton of parity in college bball and there are going to be a ton of upsets.

UConn's unreal.

One road loss against a Marquette team that's pretty solid doesn't mean anything. ANd LSU almost beat the Bucks, too. LSU should not be underrated, either.

If they come to play... fuggedit.

That I understand. But Texas will.

ALSO, Duke is playing UNC this weekend. Another loss there. Slight possibility that if we win big this weekend..and Duke ends regular season on 2game skid. We could slip ahead of them as far as seeding goes for the tourney.
No chance.

It's still possible if we win out including the conference tourney and Memphis loses a game.

Yeh, a #1 seed is not out of the question....just win out, including tourny and hope Nova or Memphis takes another hit or gets knocked out early in their tourny.

I'm accepting vBets guys.

Look, I love our team guys but it's just not going to happen this year.

C'mon Golfer, you honestly can see where people are coming from.

There is a chance, while it may not be a 100% chance or even 25% there is a chance, and you know as well as anyone that anything can happen in the next week and half in the conference tourney.

A Gonzaga could lose to a very motivated team that has thier only chance to make the tourney by winning the conference tourney and Zaga already feels they have it locked up. Same coudl happen with Memphis, and Nova doesnt have the easiest of roads, to finish the season.

If we win the big ten tourney we will have won 8 straight games with wins over 4 ranked teams. Our RPI is at 5 right now and those two things, the final 10 games, and RPI are the biggest two measuring sticks the committee goes off of.

We lose this is all a moot point, but to just say there is no chance, is far from the truth if you ask me.

Duke isn't a lock on a #1 seed, just like they are not certain to beat a good UNC team in a rivalry game. Absolutely, if OSU wins at Purdue, and Duke loses to UNC at home, OSU has a chance of leaping Duke in the rankings, AND taking a #1 seed.

GO BUCKS!!:osu:
I don't agree. Duke would have to lose against UNC and then lose in the ACC tourney early to have 4 losses and drop below Ohio State. If Ohio State wins out...then there are other ways they can get a 1 seed too, besides this Duke scenero.

Memphis loses a game.
A team other than Villinova or UConn wins the Big East tourney. Or one loses really early.

This is an up year for the Big 10. If we win our conference tournement, our RPI will be in the top 4...and we will be regular season and tourney champions for the Big 10.

The NCAA committee likes Big conference teams, a tough SOS, good road records, and finishing the season strong and winning your conferece tournament, and the RPI. ALL THOSE THINGS would go in our favor for a #1 seed.

I'm not trying to really convince anyone. It's a stupid thing to argue about, because knowbody REALLY knows, and ANYTHING can happen. But I just have a feeling, so I'm not going to ignore it, even though I would say the odds are definitely against it...

The Ohio State University will have a #1 seed in the 2006 NCAA Tournament.

Sorry, as much as I love your enthusiasm, It's just not gonna happen. As much as I despise Dook, they are much more deserving of a #1 seed...even if they drop one to UNC AND lose one in the ACC tourney. That is one helluva Basketball team. I cannot stand JJ Redick or Sheldon Williams, but they are great players and the rest of 'em are pretty damned good too. Honestly, with the way things have played out this year, I'd rather roll into the tourney as an underdog of sorts (even as a #2 seed, ya gotta think we'd be seen in that light). Coach Matta has gotten us SO much further this year than any of us thought we would be, and I would kinda prefer the cinderalla role...Kinda like the Fiesta Bowl in 2003...If we are lucky enough to get get that far.:wink2:

We lose this is all a moot point, but to just say there is no chance, is far from the truth if you ask me.

Let's look at the #1 seeds:

Duke: They have the #1 in the books. They would have to lose at least 3 more games which just isn't going to happen.

UConn: The other 99% lock. They are most likely the best team in the NCAA and in arguably the most difficult conferenc, tied with the Big Ten.

Memphis: If they lost a game, there is a chance we could jump them, but we still may not. Also, Memphis hasn't lost a single game in their conference and I don't see them starting now. I think we might be just as good as Memphis but I don't see us jumping them.

Villinova: Also in the arguably most difficult conference. They traded games with UConn and havent lost to anyone else since mid January.

Sorry fellas but I don't see it happening. There is no shame in being a #2 seed. As much as I'd like to say that the Big Ten Champion should be a #1, I don't believe they should this year. Go ahead and air-dry our #2 seed. I'll be glad to take a lot of crap if I'm wrong, but let's try and avoid emotional reasoning for our #1 seed.

Not a chance in a million years. Duke loses to the second best ACC team and we beat the worst team in the Big Ten and deserve to jump them? I'm glad the tournament selection committee has already been formed...
