Official 2006 NCAA Tournament Discussion Thread

We just needed a last second shot to beat a 5-9 conference team (granted, it was on the road to a team that has beaten some ranked teams at home) - I'm not sure I believe we are one of the best 4 teams in the country right now. That's not to say I don't think we can't acheive anything in the tourny, because I think we are good enough that teams must play their best game to beat us (if we are at our best). I just hope that, with all this team has achieved, there is no dissappointment over a seed, what ever it ends up being.

With losses of Pitt, Tennessee, and Texas yesterday, we pretty much all but locked up at least a #2 seed. Right now we are #4 in the RPI, and most likely would be the top #2 seed. A memphis loss, a Big-East tourney champ game that's not UConn vs. 'Nova, or a Duke loss against UNC could be enough to put us into the spot if we win the Big 10 tourney.

And if we don't...a #2 seed is awesome. Heck when the season started it was a goal just to get in the NCAA tourney. Then when Big 10 conference play, we started to hope that maybe we could get a #4 or higher seed. Now it's down to a #1 or #2 seed. This team has been climing in the RPI, the polls, and bracketology all year. It's awesome.

I doubt that. Duke would only have 3 losses on the year and are a better team than we are. Add in the media love as well and the dream will not be a reality.

Same team that needed a half court shot to beat Va Tech and a bullshit foul to beat FSU.

Not saying we will get a higher ranking, but I think we could beat Dook.

You can't go off one game.

If we were going off one game Dook just lost to an unranked FSU team.

I forget who was covering Reddick last year from MSU, but JJ couldn't do anything all game in the tourney. I like our chances of matching that defensive performance.

That being said, I'd much rather face Nova in the elite eight.

Yes we could beat them......

However, IMO if we played them multiple times- they would win more then we would.

right now?

i know i'm a buckeye homer (aren't we all), but i've seen enough of duke (love that east coast bias) to know that we would stack up very well against them. duke is taking the same path that the team did last year. i remember working out the math last year that redick and williams averaged just as many minutes (possibly more) in blowout games as they did in close games. everyone lauds coach k for his brilliance. sorry... i don't buy it. he runs his prized players into the ground straight from the start of the season. he's doing it again this year. i can't remember who duke played (it was on at the same time as the ohio state-indiana game), but redick was taken out with minutes to go of a blowout. k sent him back in after a short breather. it's a joke. redick, i feel, is succombing to fatigue, and williams can be manhandled (killingsworth, anyone?). paulus looks like a high schooler for half of the game and a college athlete for the other half.

again, i know i'm biased, but i think that ohio state versus duke would yield five losses and five wins at a neutral site. cameron indoor? 7 & 3 or maybe 8 & 2 in favor of duke. the difference is that great.

edit: i didn't realize that all those buckeye leaves would be lost due to a lack of use. ugh. i miss looking at all those buckeye leaves. all that hard work... down the drain?!?

I dunno, I don't think we match up well at all with Duke. They don't scare me as much as a team like Texas, but still they do. They NEVER take a play off defensively, they're a Coach K coached team, and they've got two superstars. Sheldon Williams is the exact kind of physical offensive player that can get Dials into foul trouble, and is the kind of low post defender that can neutralize him, too. JJ Reddick is THE man, I would take him over ANY guard in the country. Like him, hate him, whatever, he's going to give Foster problems on BOTH ends of the court.

Those two matchups scare the HELL out of me as a buckeye fan, and I can't help but not want to play them.

I think a Memphis loss tonight DOES put us in the driver's seat for a #1 seed, and I don't know if I posted it here, but I've been telling everyone who would listen this would be a hell of a test for Memphis tonight.

no interest in playing Duke whatsoever. Coack K this and Reddick that ... in the end, it's DUKE. in the tournament they are a tough out, period. their coach alone is worth a lot. remember Glen Robinson? everyone was so high on him and Coach K found his weakness and took him out.

yes, we might beat them. but who wants to try? I'd much rather see them in the Final Four then have to face them to get to a FF. any season where you make it to a FF has to be considered a phenomenal success. what happens after that is just gravy - especially considering the low expectations at the seasons' beginning for the Buckeyes.

thanks but no thanks on playing Duke for me.
