Official 2006 NCAA Tournament Discussion Thread

Historically, the selection committee has not awarded teams who have done well in their conference tourneys basically, due to the fact a lot of the selection process has been completed prior to the end of the tournaments. Trust me, tOSU is at least a #2 seed at this point.

Yeah, but now they really pay attention to the last 10 games or so.

Does anyone know if students have a shot at tickets???? Is it a drawing type thing like the bowl game??

This is the most recent "Bracketology" post from ESPN. This is obviously only the bracket they have OSU currently in. To be honest, I fully believe this is the BEST CASE SCENARIO for OSU and here are a few reasons.

1) We will be heavily favored in our first two games, both of which will basically be home games for us in Dayton.

2) Barring an upset, we would most likely play LSU in the Sweet 16. We already played AND beat LSU earlier this season. Also, This will be in Minnesota. Im no Georgraphy major but Ohio is alot closer to Minnesota than Louisiana lol. We should have the crowd in our favor all the way to the Final 4.

3) Villanova being the #1 seed in our bracket. Villanova runs a 4guard offense that is so good because of their quick guards. Why does this bode well for us? Because our problem is going to be defending the BIG GUYS(which Villanova does not use). I'd be far more worried playing Uconn due to their huge size. I think our guards defensive play will keep us in the game with Nova.

Don't go all crazy on me, but Oral Roberts is no slouch. I would rather not play them in the first round. They played Oklahoma to with in 8 pts @ OU and they destroyed USC by 20 pts.

I know we will overmatch them, but they are a team that is very capable of an upset. I would be worried about a game like that b/c it would be very easy to overlook.

Same would go for WIt. St. they are another team coming out of the Missouri Valley conf. (Creighton, S. Illinois, N. Iowa) that would be a looking to upset a major team.

Oh I know what you're saying and I completely agree, I thought of both of those cases...especially Witchita State out of the MVC. But the road to final 4 is gonna be TOUGH no matter who you are, where you're from, where you're playing, or who you're playing.

Okay...I know BN27 keeps saying we will be in Dayton, which I am sure we will. But ignoring that, let's say the unthinkable happens...and teams lose ahead of us, and we win out...and get a 1 seed. Would we still be able to play in Dayton? My understand is Dayton is only hosting 2 and 3 seeds. Or would it change to host the 1 seed since OSU is closest.

Yes or no...if Ohio State is a #1 seed, would they play in Dayton?

I'd love to see them there, for home court advantage, but I don't have tickets and they'd be way to expensive for me to go to the games.

I am not sure, but Dook is usually a one seed and they always get to play in Greensboro no matter what.

I would think that you would get the best regional place available to you if you were a one seed. At least that is what makes sense.

Will be in Dayton, Will be in Dayton, Will be in Dayton

Seeding doesn't matter anymore. The teams will still go to their closest site regardless of seed as long as they are highly seeded. Nova could tank and they will still be in philly as a 1, 2, or probably 3 seed. OSU is going to Dayton.

We're not going to be a #1 seed unless we win all the rest of our games and a bunch of teams lose...very very low probability.

And even if you are, Ohio State will be in Dayton. It's MORE likely that they will be in Dayton if they are a 1 seed.

100% in Dayton as a 1
99% in Dayton as a 2

Somehow we must find a way to play Duke. Otherwise Matta's streak will end at 2 - unless Duke loses and somebody else takes over as #1.

Of course, there aren't any undefeated teams so that part is already over.
