You do realize they have their best player out, who can take a game over on any given night, combined with a defensive presence like Oden, witch guys like West, Telfair on the perimter you have a contendor in the East..
Even when he is in they are not a force in the East.

No but it will be a GREAT start Pierce hasn't had a real center since he's been in the league.
I'm not just trying to disagree just to disagree, but do you guys think that by the time Oden develops in the NBA, Pierce will still be the player he was a couple years ago? Pierce is already 29. I hope wherever Oden goes he will succeed, but I think the Celtics need a lot more help than just a center to be a force in the East.

How long do you think that it's going to take him to develope? We haven't even seen him a 100% and he still manages to score, he will learn how to guard the pick i don't think it will take him 5 years to do so. I think you make some good moves in the off season get oden and i do think that they could be a force in the next 2-3 years.

You very well may be right, and I could be wrong. I understand your point and see where you are coming from. It is just rare in the NBA for a team to completely turn around in one or two seasons. I hope for the best for Oden. It is just IMO I think a lot of things will have to go their way for them to become a force in the East.

Remember that Jordan really didnt hit his prime until he was 29, and while Oden might not be a force right away on the offensive end, much like it took Shaq a while to really develop a feel for the post game down low he will be a force down low on defense much like he is in college.

They also have Al Jefferson and Ryan Gomes who can help down low...

Then they have Wally, Delonte West, Tony Allen, Telfair, Rondo, Allen Ray, and Gerald Green....

Overall a very young team, with a bunch of role type players, and with a guy like Oden in the middle and Pierce on the outside that is going to open up jumpers for Wally, West and company, and they would be in the East which would allow them to be a contendor...

Heres what looks to be the Celtics possible starting line up for next season if they draft Oden.

PG- Delonte West
SG- Paul Pierce
SF- Wally Szczerbiak
PF- Al Jefferson
C- Greg Oden

That is some talent
Aside from West and Szerbiak I agree. (couldn't be bothered with the extraneous consonants ...)

Just because the Celtics may have the worst record doesn't guarantee Oden, only about a 25% chance.
