For 2022:
Wide receivers coach Brian Hartline and running backs coach Tony Alford, who added passing game coordinator and run game coordinator to their titles in January, received pay raises that brought their salaries up to $950,000 and $750,000. Quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis also got a bump in salary to $400,000 from $300,000.
While the contracts for offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson and defensive line coach Larry Johnson were extended, their annual salaries remained $1.4 million and $1.13 million.

Just sayin': Hartline's 2023 salary should be in the 7 figures now.

I've always been suspect of WR's and some QB's that move into OC/play calling roles. Sometimes they tend to get pass happy.

But Hartline has been great at everything he's done as a coach, plus the dude played under Tress. I see no reason to not have every confidence in his abilities.

We’ve gotten pretty good coaches from the skill side of the ball that have shown balance:

- Tressel (played QB, coached QB/WR from 79-85 before taking over HC at Youngstown)

- Urban (coached QB/WR from 89-00 before taking over HC at Bowling Green)

- Day (played QB, coached QB/WR 06-17 before taking over as HC)

Not as big a risk as one might think. Downside is that he'll have to spread his time over the other O facets, and not 100% on his stable of WRs. The WRs might miss his day-to-day hands-on training of technique. Agree with above that he'll be able to recruit better (?) as OC. He'll still have to rely on his other position coaches to keep their own recruits interested, but he (and Day) will still be there to 'seal the deal'. Upside is that he'll have Day looking over his shoulder with the play calling. Can't think of better person to train Brian. We'll see how this relationship fares as Hartline decides to 'break' from HC Day's recommendations for a play (one of our complaints this year), and goes with HIS gut. That'll be the day when the bird flies from the nest. Hope it is a smooth flight. Also, not replacing Wilson frees up his salary to provide the raises, and probably hire a WR assistant coach as Hartline will have to be in the tower overseeing practices from upstairs. Plus, there's the obvious thought that making him OC keeps him in Scarlet & Gray for awhile longer. Go Bucks!

OCs are almost always position coaches, so there shouldn’t be a worry there. And I’m supposing that he’s in the booth on game days, Bailey can work with the WRs(he does already ) and the TEs, not much of a stretch.
And I doubt he gets thrown into playcalling, and honestly I still see Day highly suggesting plays to ease him into the role. Recruiting the entire offense (specifically on the OL) is what makes this hire such a big deal.

Agreed Pnuts. Day will 'continue' to playcall, as that is his stock in trade. Wilson defered to his boss, which was smart, and that is a new talent for Hartline to learn. Meant to say that somewhere down the line, Hartline will disagree with Day on what to call, so will see what happens. Wilson did his purgatory servitude at tOSU after getting booted from Indiana, and left when the dust had cleared. Probably the way Hartline will go after a period of time. We'll see. PS, glad to see Hartline get to another rung in the ladder. Believe he'll do well.

The OC title lets them give him a raise .. mostly title change and recruiting expanded.
