OC Chip Kelly (Official Thread)

balance is just a notion. it doesn't exist in reality. it's like averages... they only exist as a mathematical construct.

in reality you do whatever the f*** you need to do on any given play to get to the first down marker or beyond. that's it. you don't look at balance or any other analytics which can't keep you on schedule.

same with all this bullsh*t about tendencies. did tcun break their tendencies? hell no. did we do a damn thing about it? hell no. do what you're good at, and keep doing it until the competition stops you. sheesh... i guess i'm missing something.
Agree completely except for one thing: Martindale didn't blitz anywhere near the amount that he typically does. If I were to guess, it was less than 5 times for the game.
My guess: the offensive game plan was to counter active blitzing.

IMO this is the guy who should FAR more blame than Day! The HC should definitely have some accountability. But Kelly was brought in for his offensive mind and creativity. And anyone who followed a small amount of scUM football knew their strength was their DTs and LBs, and their weakness was their DBs. And Kelly chooses to run into the DTs over and over, and virtually ignore his WRs. And show little to no creativity. The offensive gameplan rivals the 2015 MSU game, and that was with arguably the worst OC since the Walrus. OSU has Chip Freaking Kelly and can't score more than 10pts against a team going to a 3rd tier bowl and was without multiple defensive starters(mainly Will Johnson). OSU might as well kept Day calling plays for just 10pts and an anxiety riddled gameplan. Kelly has coached in many big games at the collegiate and pro levels, and the Game on Saturday looked like a 1st time OC would wet himself. This loss is one of the worst I've ever seen. The sad fact that I had countless scUM fans coming up to me Friday evening and Saturday morning in Detroit congratulating me on what they assumed would be an easy OSU win, to even a number of people who said they wouldn't waste time watching because they knew OSU would win. Only for OSU to literally struggle to score 10pts. Inexcusable! And Charles Edward Kelly deserves to be the #1 reason for the loss, he let down the entire team, and I hope he didn't lose the trust of his players, because if I'm Smith, Egbuka, etc, I'm PISSED

Kelly should not be back next year. Moment the season is over he shouldn’t even be given bus fare. Just drop him off at the nearest cota bus stop and make him figure it out. If Day comes back I hope Bjork decrees Kelly must be gone

At this point, they might as well let Hartline call plays. I bet the WRs would've seen the ball

Yes, I’m not really sure that Hartline was ever calling plays.

I don't think he was every ready in '23. Specifically against Purdue he was calling some plays but wasn't doing it quickly enough. At one point you can see Day lose it and say something like "give me the fucking sheet, I'll do it."

Maybe he's ready now, but the answer isn't hoping he is. If you don't want Kelly back, you have to go out and get someone else. I don't want to jettison him into the sun yet because I'm not sure how much anyone can do with your top 2 OL out and your QB playing poorly. To use the WRs you still need a QB who could put together a drive and whether he was slightly concussed or just bad, Howard got worse and worse as the game went on.

Yes jettison him into the sun... he's a 0 in recruiting and after that game plan a 0 in game planning and borderline 0 in play calling... Kelly adds nothing to this staff

hell bringing back Kevin Wilson is more preferable to keeping Kelly

Seems like something that would be worked on during the offseason. Would hope to see him get another opportunity.
