Weis suspends Notre Dame lineman for three games after arrest

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame defensive lineman Derrell Hand, arrested last month on a misdemeanor charge of propositioning a prostitute, will be allowed to play for the Fighting Irish after serving a three-game suspension imposed by coach Charlie Weis.

Hand appeared before the school's disciplinary committee on Monday, was reinstated to the team and began practicing that day, Weis said Tuesday.

Hand entered into a pretrial diversion program on Aug. 16 that would allow him to have the charge against him dismissed in a year if he meets certain requirements, like staying out of trouble, undergoing testing for HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases and paying $316 in court costs.

Did I hear Claussen is NOT the QB? Sounded on ESPNews last night that Weis wasn't saying who the starter was, but it was narrowed down to 2 and it wasn't Claussen...but then the news guys couldn't make any sense of it, and they went back and forth on what Weis really meant. Anyone else hear this at all?

Those people will insist that Notre Dame SHOULD BE 10-2. But with their incredible schedule, they became a 7-5 or 8-4 team.

I don't know if I would predict we would go 10-2 if our schedule fell that way, let alone a team like NoD. Its not just the teams you play its the sequence.

@PSU and @ tsun weeks 2 and 3 while breaking in all those new players? Thats an 8 week cumulative effect type schedule with at least 4 teams that are flat out better than you...but they think a 2 loss season is realistic. :shake:

Can't wait to see the spin on ClausenGameday. His coverage on that show rivals PacMan's monopoly of NFL Live (before Vick), in part to pimp ND, and also their #1 recruit in their laughing stock of a recruiting company.

The scuttlebut is that he hasn't regained full arm strength back after the elbow procedure, and because he can't yet throw the deep ball effectively he won't be the starter.

Too bad the NCAA is allowing a 12th game. Weis had the real potential to be known as "9 and 3 Charlie".:biggrin:
