Notre Dame (football only discussion)

Notwithstanding the pronouncements of his father, or Brian Hardin, I wonder if this effectively takes Clausen out of full competition for the starting QB rotation in South Bend?
Jones looks to very much have the inside track now.

Since they've already announced the green jerseys, maybe this is just setting up another shocking moment. Think about it:

1. Notre Dame warms up with Jones at QB
2. Notre Dame returns to the lockerroom
3. Notre Dame runs out of the tunnel with Clausen leading the way

Michigan, Notre Dame agree to 20-year contract extension

Likely TSUN's 2nd biggest rivalry will continue until 2031. It was said that Notre Dame was going to play Oklahoma in place of Michigan in 2011 and 2012. Seeing as how this is a 20 year contract starting when the old one is up in 2011, I'm guessing Notre Dame will still play Oklahoma in place of another team, I'm hoping they replace Army or Air Force :sleep1:

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Michigan and Notre Dame will be knocking helmets on the football field for another two decades.
The two storied programs agreed to a 20-year contract extension Monday that will have them playing annually through 2031. The series was set to expire after the 2011 season.
"The Notre Dame-Michigan game has been a red-letter date on the football schedule for a long time, so it made perfect sense to make certain the rivalry continues annually long into the future," Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White said.
The schools are 1-2 in wins and winning percentage in college football. Michigan is 860-282-36 with a .745 winning percentage, while Notre Dame is 821-269-42 with a .744 winning percentage. Michigan leads the all-time series 19-14-1. The Fighting Irish and Wolverines played which only twice from 1909-77, but their early season meeting has become a staple of the college football season over the last two decades.
"It is a game our players and alumni, and every college football fan, deserves," Michigan coach Lloyd Carr said. "I am ecstatic they were able to come to an agreement."
The rivalry dates back to 1877, when some Michigan students taught the game to Notre Dame students. There was so much bad blood between the two schools, though, they stopped playing after the Irish earned their first victory in 1909 after eight straight losses.
The schools played again in 1942 and 1943, splitting the games, before resuming the series in 1978. Since then, they have met in all but six years.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis, who never saw the Irish play the Wolverines while he was a student at Notre Dame, called the announcement great news.
"This rivalry is good for both schools and college football," he said.

BN27 is actually right. I don't know if you've noticed, but Michigan certainly hasn't dominated ND in the last several years. The scores may not have always been close, but the wins have been. In fact, its been almost exactly 50/50 since 1995, each team tends to get a win every other year. So, even in NDs really crappy years, theres always been a chance for the upset in this rivalry. Michigan State has actually had ND's number more times than Michigan.

How can BN27 be "actually" right? We aren't within 4 years of any of the games he and I were referring too :p

I think Notre Dame is going to continue it's recent trend of mediocrity.

Anyone want to guess at results during that 20 year span?

My guess?

I'll probably go 0 for another 20 years of rooting for the giant meteor to smash into the stadium they are playing in.

Oh well, I'll never give up on my dream, there's always next year.

[FONT=verdana, arial,
sans serif]The ranking is too low because ... it's not like the team is completely devoid of talent after losing all the stars. This is still Notre Dame and Charlie Weis has done a good job of starting to bring in more and more top-flight players. The defense has changed up to a 3-4, which should play to the strength: linebacker. Maurice Crum might be overrated, but he makes a bunch of plays and should be a good leader.

[/FONT][FONT=verdana, arial,
sans serif]The ranking is too high because ... the secondary problems still don't appear to be fixed, the defensive line is shockingly missing any real playmakers, the offensive line that was so lousy last year likely won't be much better, and the overall offensive production should take a big drop without Brady Quinn, Darius Walker, Jeff Samardzija and Rhema McKnight. There are good prospects to get excited about, but the first half of the season is so rough that no one will have time to get their feet wet.

Here's what I don't understand. NA keeps getting touted for their special teams but I haven't seen the evidence. It sure doesn't seem like they have especially dangerous returners. Their place kicker is anonymous to me. Where is this coming from?
