Notre Dame (football only discussion)

I gotta tell you. Watching Notre Dame come to terms with the reality that their program still sucks is one of the highlights of my life.

You've seen that? wow. Most of the Irish fans I know still think their program is great and that they are going to beat LSU. When their bowl was announced last, I even heard "They are going to screw Notre Dame" when it didn't look like they were going to get that BCS bowl they so rightfully deserved.

I'm afraid that addiction to this fantasy is not easily overcome (link).

Think of it as a work in progress, a journey of self-exploration (usually manual), and a tearing away of veils. Wait until you hear the wailing and lamentation when they get waxed by LSU. And then when they lose five games next year. It's when they finally turn on Weis that you will know they have hit rock bottom.

this waiting is like i am an 8-year-old on christmas eve, unsure but hopeful that what i pleaded for since the previous christmas is wrapped and waiting for me under the tree.

The Fighting Irish haven't beaten a team of real consequence in the last two seasons. They defeated then-No. 3 Michigan 17-10 in 2005, but the Wolverines finished last season with a 7-5 record and unranked in the polls. In fact, Notre Dame hasn't beaten a team that finished the season ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press poll since defeating Washington State 29-26 in overtime in the 2003 opener.

During the game in which ND had the snot beat out of them the talking heads discussed how many of ND's players had said they were going to return next year. My guess is all the ones who arent going to be drafted this year. 8 of them will have to enroll in grad school to return.
So now I am wondering three things after watching this debacle.
1. How many of them will actually return.
2. How will their recruiting be affected after all their interested recruits watched in what had to be wide eyed horror?
3. Does the Staff at ND feel like they got cheated after extending Weis's contract?
I can't see where Nd can expect very satisfactory results.

Thought that came to me today:

The kids ND is currently recruiting were not even in kindergarten yet the last time ND won a Bowl game(well maybe Claussen but thats another topic).

Just sayin.
