Notre Dame (football only discussion)

don't know much about the story behind it, but doyel slays it with his writing:

Lot of pissed off Irish fans that Eddie Vanderdoes was trying to get out of his LOI, and as of right now Vanderdoes hasn't stated any family/personal issues that would warrant getting out of that LOI. Vanderdoes was also tabbed as the successor to big Louis Nix at Nose Tackle.

This whole sage is similar to how Matthew Thomas was trying to get out of his LOI to Florida State and switch to USC, although Thomas's situation has details. The specifics on Thomas's desire to get out of his LOI are well known because his mother wouldn't let him go to USC, but there isn't a lot of information why Vanderdoes changed his mind. The rumor floating in the interwebz is that Vanderdoes sent in his commitment, but asked to delay the announcement of his college decision till later in the day on NSD. His decision ended up getting leaked or reported early anyway before it was retracted. The rumor is that he was pissed about the leak.

I can't see that being the reason personally. Just seems kind of trivial when you take into account Vanderdoes is now going to lose a year of eligibility by sitting out this season, backing out of his LOI, and going to UCLA next year. As far as I know theres no concrete details on why Vanderdoes changed his mind, and as of right now he isn't reporting any major changes in his family that would make him want to stay close to home and back out of his LOI.

Personally I think he should be allowed to go to UCLA and play this year if he has a good reason like a family illness. Otherwise you have to hold a kid to his LOI, and from what I've seen there isn't a college football coach that would want that any different. If you don't hold a kid to an LOI then any recruit is fair game even after NSD, you would have to continue recruiting a kid until he's fully enrolled and on campus. It would also set a precedent that could affect all future recruits that might change their mind after NSD. That would be a huge headache.

Notre Dame honors contract, will play at Arizona State in 2014

The Irish will honor a contract signed in 2008 to play the Sun Devils next season at ASU, Arizona State announced Tuesday night. Notre Dame previously had told ASU in April that it didn't intend to play the 2014 game citing schedule changes involved with entering a scheduling agreement with the ACC.

In the end, Notre Dame could not get out of the game because there was no buyout, according to a source. The contract stated the game could be cancelled only because of "an act of God, a national crisis, or other events beyond the control of the host institution," according to the Arizona Republic.
.../cont/...

I was kind of hoping that they wouldn't/couldn't drop the ASU game as I think it could be a good game, but thats really going to make it tough to do the half ACC schedule thing in 2014. Right now 10 games are scheduled and the only team that will be a part of the ACC at that time will be Syracuse. ND scheduled a couple cupcakes for that season that included Rice and Temple, and they also added Northwestern that year which is an older matchup, but not a very active one.

FBS schedules shows they've got home games with Louisville, North Carolina, and Wake Forest still needing to be scheduled for 2014 and an away game with FSU. So as it stands it looks like 2 games need to be dropped from the 2014 schedule. Looking at the schedule they'll either have to delay the ACC membership deal for 2014, or they'll have to drop two games between Rice, Temple, and Northwestern. I can't see them dropping USC, Stanford, or Navy. Purdue could potentially get the axe.

I just wish all the big ten teams would quit playing those weenies.

I bet they thought they had it covered with that part. I guess The Lord wouldn't do them a solid.

The problem is the game is against the Sun Devils. The big guy and Satan have been going at it over this shit for thousands of years. To get out of it would've cost 500 souls, or something.

Instead, they're going to have a big watch party and there will no doubt be plenty of wagering. I'm just hoping Sophia Loren kicks it before then so I can try to get her drunk that night.

I didn't realize there was a second notre dame football thread. My bad.

Is anyone surprised the Michigan fan got confused when he had to count to two?

He'll have to count a lot higher than that when the Irish come to Ann Arbor Saturday night. Bo and I made a bet. What he doesn't know is I've made arrangements with Mary - yeah, THAT Mary - to guarantee victory. The poor sonofabtich should know better. Fuck Michigan.

I haven't done the math, but Pat Ford seems to think that the Irish will retake the lead in winning % if they can beat the Wolverines Saturday. Michigan will obviously retain if they win. Notre Dame held the record for 35 seasons before Michigan overtook them in 2007.

All this is kind of moot if you consider that new FBS team, Old Dominion, has a winning percentage of .7917 in 4 seasons since their revival.
