Notre Dame (football only discussion)

What ND will tell you is they already have 3 "traditional" rivals in the B1G - Sparty, Purdue, and TSUN.

To be fair, the story I was told is Woody didn't want to schedule ND, either. His reasoning had to do with not making Catholics have to choose between the Buckeyes and the Irish. To me, that's a reason TO schedule them - to separate the Buckeyes from the closet domers.

The other part of the story; Notre dame wanted to join the Big 10 back in the 20s, but Michigan (read Fielding Yost) blocked them. Michigan then put pressure on Purdue to drop the Irish and Purdue refused.

Chicago drops out of the athletic half of the Big 10 in the late 30s and Michigan State wanted in the early 50s. Can we guess who blocked this? Complaining that MSU's schedule wasn't up to snuff. Notre Dame, recalling their treatment, reached out and gave MSU a home and home series that eventually led to the Spartan's admission to the Big 10 despite little big brother's bitching.

The games in Columbus and South Bend evidently ended with some bad feelings on both sides regarding crowd conduct I believe -- don't know- just heard it mentioned as a reason why they didn't schedule any more games.

The final scores had a much larger impact on that decision than crowd behavior (even though I believe the crowd received a penalty for being too loud, which was apparently a rule at the time - the brilliance of the NCAA never ceases to amaze).

Thought you guys might get a chuckle from this. I guess we can only wish.

?You can put him in the same category as George Atkinson,? Kelly said of Golson, comparing him to Saturday?s other statistical star. ?Both of those guys are exciting, electric players, but they are a heart attack for me.

Oh and this gem...in regards to his top QB.

Notre Dame third-year head coach Brian Kelly wasn’t willing to go near that far in his assessment, in part because he wants to vague his way into August.

Is it easier to go from vague to irrelevant?

Please tell me this is a crap website proving that it is in fact a crap website

Provost Dr. Tom Burish stated in the release that ?While Notre Dame would have preferred to maintain its independence, the financial realities of the world of college football made the decision a necessity.? He also said that ?The longstanding tradition of the schools in the Big 10 conference best fit that of the Irish program?, according to reports.
