Notre Dame (football only discussion)

Now we all know the domers' excuse for how they have been abysmally bad the past few years. Ty Willingham. While the reality is nowhere near what they portray it to be, Willingham's recruiting did have SOME effect on it, albeit nowhere near accounting for ALL their failure. This article gives some insight on the ND OL recruiting and play since Willingham's first year. A well thought out article. Hard to argue with it.

A quote from that article.

Based on the article's intent, it's amazing that it says 19 sacks, when Ntre Ame actually allowed 58 last year. :wink2:

19 was the the record-setting total they allowed in the first half against UM.

Just out of curiosity, what is the MOST number of sacks allowed by one team in any season? Would be nice if it was ND's but I doubt it.

According to this ND website, it's the most allowed since the NCAA starting tracking sacks. I'm not sure what year that was (the NFL started in 1982).

NCAA Sacks Allowed...........and the same guys are back! All those 4-5 star recruits!
Na, theres at least one new guy on the O-line. Sullivan, the center, graduated. He was the one that snapped two balls over the QBs head on back to back plays against Michigan. 5th year senior, had mental mistakes all year, and there were reports he was pointing fingers at others. For a guy that was supposed to be the leader on the line, he didn't set a good example. Thats not to say his replacement will be any better, ND still needs to get their O-line in shape. This year they don't have a lot of freshmen and sophomores on the line, they look to be comprised of mostly juniors and seniors again. They need to gel and provide better protection for the offense to go anywhere. Chris Stewart, Eric Olsen, Paul Duncan, Sam Young, and Dan Wenger comprise the current starters I think. Turkovich is still on the team, I think he was a starter last year, not sure if he just lost his spot or its an injury.

This will cause some confusion. Since Charlie was born in New Jersey, he thinks that 'Utes' are the young guys on his team.

This has probably been the least impactful transfer, next to Hord. As a Junior he has no recorded stats, while most of the freshmen have seen significant game time already. Haven't kept up on all injuries, I know Hord was injured a lot of his career. Kind of a mystery, Jackson was rated a 4 star recruit coming in, looks like he may not have the skills to compete at the next level.
