Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

I am someone who regularly found ways to get people to buy beer, Boone's Farm, and MD20/20 as a testosterone-enriched teen. Being so far away from Columbus, I often think about how much I'd really like to get in touch with eight of my closest friends and relive the fun we had.

But, it isn't the distance that makes it so hard to talk about the fun we had. They died within six months of our graduation in alcohol-related auto accidents--two on the night of our graduation party in a brand new Datsun 280Z. Two driving up the wrong ramp at I-71 and Cooke Road. The others in individual DUI accidents.

There is a reason for underage drinking laws. Not one of my best friends from high school lived to get through college. I really don't mean to comment on anything that anyone has said in this thread but please remind your kids that it just takes an instant for everything to change. And, no one ever thinks it could happen to them.

Charlie Weis is wrong if he thinks this is about giving someone a break.

Actually, I think Charlie is just misunderstood. Really, he is a caring parent who puts spiritual, educational, and moral standards on a far higher plane than a place like Ohio State. Oh, and he's thin and fighting fit.

Finally someone with a brain around this place. I bet you are the only one smart enough to have bet on us winning 11 games this year too!

BOOK IT !1!!

I have a kid that age, and it wouldn't bother me a bit if she's out playing drinking games with friends. So long as she stays in control of her faculties and doesn't endanger herself or others, I am perfectly happy to treat her as the adult she is.
The starting QB for ND should be punished just because of how stupid he is. "Let's pose for pictures for the Beer Olympics" .. what a [mili] dipshit [/mili]

Well, until your daughter becomes the starting QB for arguably the most storied college football program and has her picture plastered all over the media, you can let her do what she wants.

Bottom line is that, whether we agree with the law or not, underage drinking is illegal and Clausen was caught in a position that clearly shows he was more than likely drinking. Wise comes off as thinking that his QB is above the law.

Charlie is just being realistic. College kids drink.......

I agree and at the same time disagree with what has transpired regarding Clausen. On one hand, its fairly obvious that a large majority of college kids drink. I'm not much of a drinker myself. I can count on one hand the number of times I drank in my four years of college. I also know that a majority of college kids drink way more than I did. I would have to say that most of the kids playing football in college drink on a regular basis, so in that token I see why Weis is saying "Drop it."

On the other hand, Clausen was stupid for posing in a picture, he deserves to get punished. I'm sure he never thought it would escalate to this, but you can't trust that every one of your buddies isn't going to make a quick buck and release a photo, or unwillingly upload the pic to their MySpace. At any other college Clausen would probably be suspended 2-4 quarters at max, if anything. Of course, at 95% of the other colleges the media wouldn't even bring something like this up, wouldn't be worth the time.

I expect that Jimmy will be punsihed in some way, if not publically then he'll be running laps or something. I know the last time ND had an alcohol situation they kicked the starting FB off the team for DUI, this is certainly a less offensive action though.

Considering Clausen is at a party, I honestly don't see any problem with it. It'd be one thing if he were out at a bar, caught with beers in the cupholders of his car as he was driving off, passed out on the curb, or some other similarly stupid thing, but this is a college aged kid having fun at a kegger in the privacy of a frat house or apartment.

Big whoop.

Frankly, I think Weis should bench him for being a dumbass and wearing a t-shirt cut up like the Ultimate Warrior. The beer drinking, however, I don't have any problem with.

If the standard of conduct becomes such that an underage player can not be in a position where he could have his picture taken in the vicinity of alcohol - well, let's hope that doesn't happen until after the USC game or we wont be able to field a travel squad.

That said, Charley is indeed, and always shall be, a fat fuck.
