Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

I don't remember him missing time. Perhaps he was punished by not allowing fake punts for x number of games :) I still wish we had tried that in 06 in a big game. (I don't believe we did)

Of course it doesn't make it right. I just think it's only discussed because of the hatred reserved for jimmah and nd. Ok, maybe a little for that outfit.

If someone posted a pic of idaho state's qb with a beer despite being underage, would anyone here really care?

While it would likely make things worse, it would be humorous to make Jimmy wear that outfit during warmups in game 1.

They must be related...although I think Weis is more shapes than Goodman.

Do you honestly, seriously not see why it's a problem when the star quarterback of a team - some might argue the sole player of any prospect on the roster - is caught breaking the law in public? More to the point, why it's a bigger problem that he's not disciplined at all? How can you possibly claim the moral high ground in academics and discipline if your coach willfully ignores this kind of thing?

"Oh, it's just underaged drinking! Oh, it's just a little weed!" Give me a break. I was an RA in college and I was routinely forced to dole out punishment for this kind of minor shit - whether you (or I) think so or not, the schools actually care. Well, except perhaps Notre Dame, which apparently treats their athletes as a separate class of students altogether.

You want to know why Notre Dame was 3-9 last year? It wasn't just a lack of a schematic advantage, it was a lack of a proper coach in any sense of the word. The team has no discipline, no player development, no schematic advantage, no class (just ask Penn State's special teams). Can't wait to see ND cough up the money to buy out Weis' contract; that's going to be a sweet, sweet day.

Claussen drinking is a non-issue if you ask me. Beer drinking has been a frequent issue with the Buckeyes and I imagine any other college -- it's what 18 - 21 year olds do.

Let's get back to the facts of the case:

1) Little Tuna is an arrogant fat fuck, the kind of person who could cause me to root for Michigan. He's like Steve Spurrier in that way. Ol' Steve and his winey sideline manner could make me root for the axis of evil, but that's another thread.

2) Pickle Claussen is a dweeb.

3) I'd root for Steve Spurrier before I'd root for Notre Dame.

The issue is that Claussen was merely holding an empty cup in the picture. No evidence has come forth that he was drinking alcohol. You can assume that he drank according to prior experience, but unless there's more evidence, you can't convict him of having done anything wrong, unless holding a cup in wrong.

But he was not caught breaking the law in public. He was 'presumably' drinking a beer at a frat house or apartment. The pictures show nothing more than him holding a plastic cup while standing around a kitchen table with a bunch of other guys.

18-20 year old college kids drink beer. Hell, 15-18 year old high school kids drink beer. The whole thing is a non-issue. The only questionable aspect of the matter is whether Charlie Weis has punished him for the ole "violation of team rules," and whether Clausen has finally had it hammered into his greasy, spiked head that the QB of Notre Dame will always be under more scrutiny than any other college football player in America. He needs to learn that that was part of the deal when he took the scholarship. Charlie could just as well have 'disciplined' him with some gassers or stadium steps, and we'll never be any wiser.

I don't know what publicly admonishing him based on Internet innuendo solves. I don't see what people are so indignant about.

You can't tell by the photo that the cup is empty because it's obscured, but any nitwit can conclude from the photo that Clausen was indeed drinking (check the cup of the chick in the green shirt on Clausen's immediate left, which does have beer in it).

I just really don't think this is a big deal. College kids drink and they drink underage.

I feel really badly for these kids nowadays. In that picture Clausen and everyone around him looks like they are having a great time. Big fucking deal! The kid had a beer (or 10) so what?? He's not being accused of DUI or rape or beating the shit out of anyone. He's having some beers and, more than likely, trying to get laid (and probably not having much luck given the way he's dressed).

I know that people like to trot out the legal age and the "it doesn't matter it's still against the law" argument. That's all true. But in my eyes the only thing these kids are guilty of is being born in an age when any person with a camera phone can make their lives a lot more difficult than they ought to be. Imagine NEVER being able to cut loose while you were in college for fear that something you say or do might end up plastered on the world's biggest billboard (the net) for everyone to see. That has to be just an awful feeling.
