Notre Dame 20, UCLA 6 (final)

OK, I take it back...if UCLA has to put in a goddamned walk-on QB, then it does matter what UCLA personality shows up, and with the drop in the end zone, it's obviously the John L. Smith version. Congrats to ND for the eventual win, but the fans and the dreaded subway alums better temper their attitude considering they basically beat a walk-on.

This will be remember as one of the biggest wins in ND history.

:so:

And the justification for a BCS bowl. Charlie has turned it around, etc, etc.

This was a very winnable game for UCLA. ND's defense did well even when Olson was in the game, but the offense went absolutely no where as UCLA's defense stuffed everything all night too. If I was the coach from UCLA, I woulda said "screw it" and put in the redshirt freshman. The backup QB that played instead was not ready for this game. He did not have the tools, and he wasn't prepared. I suppose you can't fault the guy, he probably just joined the team in hopes of getting a scholarship. If the redshirt freshmen is your "future," and your first two QBs go out, I say put the freshman in and at least get him some game experience, hell, maybe even a win. He wasn't going to play worse than the walk-on anyway.

Maurice Crum Jr. had a huge game. He started out slow, but came up with 2 Ints, 2 Fumble Recoveries, 7 tackles, 1 sack, and a Forced Fumbled.

A quick run through the domer Rivals board shows that a sizeable number of domers actually believe that this means something. Some are calling it an "epic upset" and "why Notre Dame is Notre Dame." Others are seeing it as validation of Charlie and Clausen.

Memo to the domers: You barely beat a team playing a walk-on, third string quarterback who had never thrown a college pass before last night. Despite turning the ball over 7 times, UCLA's offense outgained that of the genius 2:1.

Fine, let the domers spend the next week puffing up their chests and believing that this fluke win actually means something. It'll make it just that much more enjoyable watching BC and USC bring them crashing back to earth in the next two weeks.

Karl Dullard is the perfect coach for ucla. Gutless.
