NoSuch Dame LB Manti "Snugglebunny" Te'o (official imaginary thread)

Idk about Ntre Ame's culpability, but the donations were procured by fraud, and constitute a federal offense...

Only if those donations were procured solely on Manti's story...that would be very difficult to prove. And as for the other awards...well, that would be hard to prove as well. For example, as far as Manziel winning the Maxwell, all they would have to do is point to the fact that the person who wins the Heisman almost never wins the Maxwell. I don't see how that would ever hold up.

One of the Heisman voters, ESPN's Andre Ware, stated that the story caused him to watch the ND season and be impressed by how well T'eo was handling all the adverse news and still maintaining his level of performance on the field, "I put a lot of weight onto that when I made my vote." Other ESPN reporters made similar statements. The hoax had an affect on key awards.

Add to that the fact that ND sat on this story for at least 13 days PRIOR to the NCG and then sat on it for another week afterwards. You have to believe that throughout that time they had to be crafting their public message and helping T 'eo craft his. AD Sawbuck claims this was the most difficult story to emerge during his tenure neatly ignoring the rape case and the scissors lift.

It's Friday. I think I smell fish being cooked up in South Bend.

The way he played in the NCG kind of shed some light on how Te'o REALLY handles adversity and such, doesn't it?

FATHER PAUL DOYLE, RECTOR OF MANTI'S DORM, DILLON HALL

I was surprised to hear about it on the news. No one had called me, and I'm the team chaplain for God's sakes. It was a surprise to me. You don't have to put that in the article.

Something that came to me this evening: This whole T'eo thing is due to the Olympics (or our coverage of them).

At some point, on field accomplishments and athletic endeavors took a side or back seat to "narrative" and "story"... and here we are.

And who goofs up the Olympic broadcast with forced human interest stories to keep our attention? NBC.

And who has the exclusive television deal with Notre Dame? NBC.

Yup, this goes all the way to the top of 30 Rock... well, home base for of the triumvirate, along with Colonel Sanders and Ty Willingham.

Yeah, Ty Willingham is the snuffleupagus in the room here for sure.

Edit: Oh, there's a thread title modifiaction there somewhere.

And this is why we should all salute the poor bastard. He's managed to totally derail the "return to glory and wake up the echoes" narrative surrounding No Dame and in a matter of 48 hours turn that narrative into a mocking punchline. This is why I don't think No Dame was ever going to go public with the info. It's been three weeks. The NC game was ten days prior. When, domers? Were they holding onto it so as not to ruin anyone's Valentine's Day? Easter? The notion that that university of all places was going to proactively go public with something not only embarrassing but that but making a total mockery of their dream season is ridiculous.

[jwinslow]Yeah, but who did it really hurt?[/jwinslow]

Donations & awards would be legitimate avenues to pursue, in my IMO. Those are easily targeted and proven areas of benefit.

I think game results and polls are another matter, and I think the Domers have a long enough history of bias in the polls to question whether a sympathetic girlfriend tragedy shifted the polls very much.

Wait, so you're telling me a Catholic institution would willfully cover something up that would be harmful to its image? I challenge to you name nary even one...hundred instances of that occurring!
