Thank you Te'o for 2 hours of entertainment reading this thread. and I thought I was in for a boring evening. who says the college football off season is boring? I am eating this stuff up. the most bizzare story I have heard in years. it makes it even funnier that it is ND and if and when the truth does come out, ND looks bad regardless.

This story propelled him to a second place Heisman finish. Musberger effusively gushing about it during every Notre Dame game he called this year built this into the hype that ESPN ran with. Contrary to what ESPN would've had you believe, Te'o actually wasn't the linebacker demi-god/destroyer of worlds this season. The awards he won should've gone to Jarvis Jones and Jadeveon Clowney, but they didn't because: a) he played for Notre Dame, and b) he was a hero for playing through the adversity of losing not one but TWO loved ones! On the same day!!
He was a run of the mill All-American-ish linebacker headed into the season; there are three of them on the first team every year. The story of him overcoming the heartbreak of losing not only his grandmother but also his beloved girlfriend to a long illness elevated him into something more; something he wouldn't have achieved otherwise.
This combined with the overlooked tidbit about his dad trying to take action against the newspaper in Hawaii for printing a photo of him missing a tackle against Alabama should tell us all we need to know. They tried to create something bigger out of his senior year.
